We had torrential rain all night and now it's merely raining. The electricity just wavered but remained on. No trees down although I heard things hitting the roof. The basement has a couple of inches of water. They say the rivers will crest and flood in the coming days. The reverse 911 warned us to stay off town roads which are flooded. It could have been much worse here and I hope everyone fared as well.

My biggest fear was getting the dogs out but Luca decided that about 5:30 pm last night was enough til 10:30 today. Then he was carrying on around the shed where the woodchucks live. Could they have climbed up inside or on the vines? I'm sure the burrow is flooded and he was barking towards the roof of the shed. I had to "lasso" him and bring him in. I was afraid he could get into the brook if the fence was weakened.

The brook behind my house is a raging torrent with white water. In places the yard slants, thankfully, toward the brook and I felt water running through my crocs. Let us know how you are when you can.

Some NJ shelters were actually allowing dogs but in crates. I'd need a moving van, just about, for that. But really, if you got to the HS, would they throw you out?
Wow F, you made it through the peak of the storm and now the power goes out. That just stinks.  I'm laughing out loud right now just thinking about us bringing "Big Murph" into the High School shelter.  I'm guessing that most people would decide it was safer at home.
Please don't let the dogs deter you from leaving if you feel that is really what you need to do.  I can't say about your shelters here but I know when we took in evacuees from Katrina and then again for Ike our local humane society had people at the shelters to help with those who had animals with them.  Some shelters ended up letting people with animals stay in a separate area and also the humane society made arrangements to take animals or have fosters available to help.  There are some hotels that will allow pets too.  I know it is not the best of things to leave without a definite plan but please be safe!!  Those dogs are too cute for someone along the way not to fall in love with them and give y'all a place to stay.  Wish I was close enough to help you.
Jane, Keep us posted. I am sorry this is happening to you. Stay safe!!
This is terrible-family is family, did you ask them what THEY would do?? Who cares if a dog (or 2) is sitting next to you?

Oh Jane...I'm so sorry to hear what's happening!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...and of course..Guinness and Murphy!!

Stay Safe...

Glad to hear everyone is OK. Please stay safe.

Just checking in on you East Coasters!!! Glad to hear MOST of you are doing well! Jane, I'm starting to freak out a bit about your situation! What is this NO PETS policy??? I thought we got past that issue after Katrina???? I'm so sorry but I would stay with Tara and Amber too! No way I could leave them!  Please keep us posted!!

Still raining here, but stream (which is normally about 4 inches deep and 12 feet wide) is starting to come down a bit---it is pouring over the main road right now and no one can get through.

here are some shots from my upstairs window--that is my husband wandering around in the rain--he loves disasters!

OMD, Ginny!!  That's a  lot of water!! What is it with these DH's? Are their lives really THAT boring?LOL! Stay safe!!
Holy Doodles...that is not good.  My DH is a "disaster lover" too.

Jane,

Pack two crates. Put water, food, blanket, and the dog's paper work, and drive out of there.  You will be fine.  There are hotels. Who needs a high school.

Take your paper work with you.

Enough for 4 days,
