We had torrential rain all night and now it's merely raining. The electricity just wavered but remained on. No trees down although I heard things hitting the roof. The basement has a couple of inches of water. They say the rivers will crest and flood in the coming days. The reverse 911 warned us to stay off town roads which are flooded. It could have been much worse here and I hope everyone fared as well.

My biggest fear was getting the dogs out but Luca decided that about 5:30 pm last night was enough til 10:30 today. Then he was carrying on around the shed where the woodchucks live. Could they have climbed up inside or on the vines? I'm sure the burrow is flooded and he was barking towards the roof of the shed. I had to "lasso" him and bring him in. I was afraid he could get into the brook if the fence was weakened.

The brook behind my house is a raging torrent with white water. In places the yard slants, thankfully, toward the brook and I felt water running through my crocs. Let us know how you are when you can.

Oh no. Looked at this so quick I thought it was Jane.  Ginny, swim!

It is so hard to watch this and sit here in sunshine

It may come to that.  There was just a news report that our town is now making the evacuation mandatory.
Jane please get the hell out of there. Just keep driving till you find some place safe.
So happy to see that those who have checked in are safe so far. Jane we are saying a prayer for you guys but I'm with you, I would not be leaving without Quincy. Last year we escaped with a few downed trees but the major damage Igor caused was because of the flooding, thankfully only one person died when the road washed out from under him. It could have been so much worse.
East coasters - keep posting updates, as we're all concerned and need to know you're okay.
I just checked in and can't understand how they would turn people away with pets.  Jane, Guiness and Murphy - WE ARE SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU!!!
Don't worry, we'll be just fine.  I'm just hoping that they don't actually force us to leave...sounds like that's what they have in mind, but I'm not sure that's legal.  If it wasn't for the dogs, I'd be fine with finding a nice hotel with a pool and spa outside of the "Irene devastated area", but my Doods need to stay where they are comfortable.
Legally, I don't think they can make you leave but they will tell you they won't come to your aid if need be. Oh, dear.
That's what they told us....they will not be providing any emergency services until further notice if we decide not to leave.
Legally they can not make  you leave, but they can enforce NOT RETURNING.  So if you do leave, you do not have the right to come back until they tell you it is okay.
Just why some people were refusing to leave.

This is not the might Mississipi but the normally tranquil Saddle River. Part of the main road outside my house is washed away and the road is closed in that direction. Despite having had sunshine it is now overcast again and the wind gusts apparently brought down a neighbor's tree so no electricity. TG for my backup generator because if my sump pump wasn't working I might be floating. My thoughts are with those of you who are still in the brunt of this.
