Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
As Ragley and I move forward in our journey towards therapy dog certification, I have dug further into our options as far as titles and organizations. Something I have stumbled across is the AKC Therapy Dog Title. This is open to all breeds- pure or mixed- but the dog has to be registered with AKC. For our darling doodles this would be made possible through the AKC Canine Partners registry. AKC Canine Partners also allows mixed breed dogs to compete in select Agility, Rally, and Obedience competitions.
Ragley's CGC test is this coming Thursday and, if I was to register her, it would be nice to be able to have her AKC number to place on her CGC certificate.
Has anyone had experience with this or registered their doodle through this route? Thanks!

I don't have any needs that would require that kind of service. We'll just stick with training. (:
From reading your posts, it sounds like you two are off to a fantastic start! These doodles truly are amazing learners!
Agreed!!!!
He is simply amazing. He is by far the youngest in his class and demonstrates his obedience the best so far. Everyone there finds him so easy to love.

Yes, like Stephanie, I was going to say that this is an informative post no matter what with things people should know if they are confused on what they want out of their dog.
Bailey is registered through AKC Canine Pet Partners which allows me to show her in any AKC recognized event that allows the Canine Partners. This is most events as dog show participation is declining in most areas (agility probably being the exception). She has titles in agility, obedience and rally. There are other events that she could participate in however these are the ones that I am interested in. I have not submitted her Therapy dog visits for a title. I chose not to look for that as a title as we simply do this to give back to people in need of a visit. Our only benefit from this is the love that Bailey gets from her visits. I know that you need to track your visits and someone from the facility needs to sign off on them to verify.
And, actually, the story, may or may not end there! Maybe 8-9 months ago, Chris' Fiance came home from a quick trip to the grocery store. He said there was a gentleman, with a Dachshund, with a Service Jacket on, on a retractable lead.....the dog had tripped a woman. He was not sure if the woman was another customer or with the man. But the EMTs were there! Could be a lawsuit in the making!
She is a little over 14 months old. I started training the day she came home at 8 weeks, but we have been in a series of 3 formal training classes, on and off, over the course the past 9 months or so :) We did puppy kindergarten (mostly for the socialization), basic manners, and better manners, which is the CGC class we are in now. As difficult as it may be, adolescence is actually a great time to get him into some formal training classes. It will help both of you keep focused during this time. Good luck with those months, btw! Always remember that they will pass! hah
What an interesting and informative post! Thank you!!!
Just want to add that our trainer wants us to do therapy work with George, (and maybe some lure coursing with juno, totally NOT therapy dog material!) She set us up with some different options for her to work in that she herself has connections with, and she said its very important for us to choose a setting that we're comfortable in because almost all of them certify differently! We chose a research hospital, because we both work in healthcare. They certify through TDI, and our trainer has the ability to certify us!
George just turned 1 less than a month ago, and that is the required minimum age for therapy dog testing. We'll probably test after the first of the year, the trainer swears she'll pass now but I just finished all my finals and honestly I need a break. You might see about testing CGC and Therapy Dog at the same time, that's what we're going to do.
