I have been having an issue with Amante in the car. He trembles whines. He is uncomfortable. I have tried many different things with no luck. He does the best when he is close to me. It breaks my heart that he is unncomfortable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Rose Ann,
Was Amante like this before?
A few suggestions:
--other suggestions that have also worked. Some dogs become OVER stimuated in the car, so instead of placing them in the front seat looking out, place him on the floor. If he won't stay in a Down/Stay on the floor, get a crate. Put a blanket over the crate to keep down stimulation.
I do use a harness. I have tried him in backseat, in the middle. I have even had him sit on my lap when my DH drives. When he was a pup I had him in a travel crate and he whined and cried then too!! I may try the crate and the blanket again.
When I say let's go for a ride he gets excited and will go right to the car. When I go to Dunkin Donuts for coffee the lady always gives him a plain donut hole, the bank teller a teat. I have tried to make him want to go in car. He is better on short rides the long ones when we travel are worse. We are big campers and just spent the last 2 weeks travelling from one site to the another. The first trip was horrible by the time we left to come home he was exhausted ( we all were) and didn't give me any problems. I looked over and he was trembling a little at times. I just told him what a good boy he was when he was Not acting like that. He pants constantly and just doesn't relax. I feel so bad.
Roseann I bet Amante really loves that bank teller. :>)
Quincy is not really a lover of the car and gets a drippy nose, which is a sign of stress I guess. He will not get into the front seat with any amount of coaxing and he goes from window to window in the back seat. When we see him getting his drippy nose we just let him stick his nose out the window for a minute and then he is alright again for awhile. I wonder if maybe he gets a little car sick although he doesn't throw up and always goes willingly in the car. Quincy will tremble if he is in a strange car ( like my DH's work van) and the one time I had to take him in the front seat with me he trembled the whole time. Like Amante he is generally fine on short trips and when we take longer road trips we stop fairly often to give him a break. I wonder if the Thundershit would work for us on longer trips, if you decide to try it with Amante please let us know how it goes. Good luck, I hope you find a solution.
The Thunder what???? First the bank teller gives the dog a teat and now this!!
LMAO. I didn't see the Thundershit. I'm dying here! No wonder Amante is having a hard time.
No fair Joanne, you fixed your typo, the evidence is on the front page. :>)
LOL, That's what happens when you're really afraid of thunder.
He might actually be drooling too--a sign of nausea.
LOL The bank teller gives him a teat? Funny funny typo. I needed that laugh tonight
My dogs love the bank tellers but they don't get this perk, only a small biscuit : ) I really had to look for this having seen the reference but I still laughed out loud literally!
Back up for a second... Why must Hattie put her shoes on to go for a ride? Is she not allowed to go "barefoot" when she is outside? hehe
