Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello everyone!

I have been relentlessly searching the web for days now trying to find an answer to this question so I thought I'd ask it here. I just got my first little goldendoodle, Pettibone, in February and my husband and I absolutely ADORE her! She is so sweet! My family bred labs when I was growing up and I've always had a strong desire to breed them as well perhaps in the future. I'm not doing it for money as much as because I love the dogs and I want to spread the love and help develop the breed. I've read numerous articles on the differences in American and English goldendoodles but I was wondering if anyone had ever bred an American goldendoodle female to an English Cream goldendoodle male and if so, what the results were? I figure that the English line should be kept with English and American with American but I just wondered how the two would mesh. I love the English and American look equally but I just wanted to inquire and see if anyone had any knowledge on breeding the two together? Thanks so much!

You may want to talk to a breeder about this--not too many breeders on DK, although there are some--but this is a pretty specific question--maybe someone will mentor you that is breeding now--good to have a partner that you can go to for information.

I agree with Ginny. Most of us who participate in the forums here are owners, not breeders.

Never heard of this cross. Both of mine are English F1 goldendoodles, yet they look completely different. The older one, Monty, is stocky and curlier. The young one, Auggie, has a more petite body structure and straighter hair. The have the same dad: English retriever, just the poodle mom was different. They are white since both of the parent were white.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far!  I'm glad to be part of the community of owners here. Your dogs are so cute!! Part of me wants to get an English too just so I can have both worlds of cuteness! :) If anyone hears of anything like this I'd love to know and feed my curiosity! :)

Well since we are talking about a mixed breed in the first place, I can't see a problem with mixing golden retriever types. But because you are mixing a stocky dog with a lanky dog your won't get consistent results anyway.
The lanky dog I was referring to is the poodle.

Ah, I thought you meant an American GR. Makes sense either way, lol.

I saw your comment and had to clarify because i realized it probably did sound that way!
I have an F1 Goldendoodle but we don't have English or American. Just plain old GD. I'm always confused here.

The main difference between "English" Golden Retrievers and "American" Golden Retrievers is just body type and bone structure. The English lines are shorter and stockier. Considering that any Goldendoodle might very well be built like a poodle anyway, especially if it's an F1B or higher generation, I don't think anyone could really tell by looking at any Goldendoodle whether the Retriever lines in its pedigree were English or American. IMO, "English Goldendoodle" is more a marketing tool than anything else.

That's what I figured. We only have plain old Golden Retrievers here and I really don't see that changing anytime soon.

Yeah, look at my two boys. One is stocky, one is lanky. They are both English. I like the white color of English doodles (that is only if you breed the E. retriever with a white poodle). Other than that, there is no way to know who is who. Just like a Goldendoodle and a Labradoodle.
