Well we began letting Seamus (our former Houdini who escaped from his crate) have the run of the house a few days ago. I debated for quite a while about whether I should confine him to the basement or certain rooms, and ultimately decided that he can handle the upstairs because he LOVES to look out the window, which of course he can't do in our basement/playroom. Welllll, I'm thrilled to report that Seamus has proven to be quite the well-behaved fellow. We started with 20 minutes alone and today we were up to just about 3 hours on the loose and he was perfect. No mess, destruction, or stolen items. I have to admit that we did use our Mac computer to videotape Seamus in action, and like many of you predicted, he did nothing more than look out the window and sleep. He didn't even cry/bark when we left, which he always did when we crated him. Thank you so much to all of you who responded to my previous post about this dilemma I was facing. Your advice and experiences were so extremely helpful and much appreciated!! =)
Okay so now you can get as bad as I am. For years I had a dog who never left the window ( my neighbor told me) when we all went off to school and work. I could not bare him standing all day with no rest because he felt his job was to wait for us to come home so I got him a couch and placed it at HIS window. Since that time (except for now) a dog couch has always been placed at the window so they can watch for us to come home--and get some rest.
Seamus, I see your very own couch in your future :)
