Yesterday, Elizabeth and I went to speak with the doctor about Annie's long term care. He gave us a list of all her medications and told us all about her very serious Inflammatory Bowel Disease. She is a very sick girl- he rated her an 8 out of 10 for how sick she is. There is no doubt that she would have died a very painful death alone if she were not caught.
She was in very good spirits- no doubt because she was able to leave the hospital!
At this point she is having very runny diarrhea and doesnt have control of it. Her behind is is a little raw and really bothers her so thats the reason she must still wear the double cone. Even with that she is able to work her way around it. We put her in a diaper originally but those are really made for urinating so they dont help much and they are very expensive. Elizabeth brought over a topical spray today that seems to give her some comfort.
Annie has quite an extensive list of medications and each one is very expensive! Unfortunately, that means we still need to raise funds for her. Her heart worms will still need to be treated as well but for now, she just needs to heal and get her bowel and intestinal problems a little more under control.
We are very appreciative of all the warm wishes and love shown to us through both your kind words as well as your financial support! This is a very difficult time and we are very grateful to have support!

Nancy, we are sooo grateful to have Karen to help us through this! She is an excellent source of information! I hope Im not jumping the gun but looks like we may not need those diapers. She was mess free yesterday. She is eating and I think now has more bowel control.
Lori and Elizabeth,
Blessings on you both for your care and concern for Annie. FYI, when my non-doodle IBD dog was having uncontrollable diarrhea I put her in off-brand children's pull ups. I cut a slit just big enough for her tail to go through so the pull ups came up higher than the diaper you have on Annie in the picture above. Even the most liquid diarrhea (yuk) was totally contained. Though I had to change the pull ups frequently at first, they were much cheaper than the doggy diapers. By the way, despite her advanced age and other issues, on a diet of hydrolyzed protein (Royal Canin HP) and decreasing doses of prednisone, my furbaby has neither had diarrhea nor vomited in months, and she has even put on a few badly needed pounds. I am hoping for a similar prognosis for Annie.
Wonderful that there is hope for this dreaded dysfunction.
Oh Andrea! Thank you for the encouraging words. That sounds like heaven to me! As far as the diapers go, she pretty much has bowel control at this point so we are hoping that continues. We no longer have diapers on her and she is cone free as long as I am closely watching her!
So glad to hear Annie is home. She was so lucky to have such caring, wonderful rescuers!
What a beautiful face this girl has!
Thank you Linda! She is a beauty inside and out!
You are both awesome. I have Annie in my thoughts with hopes for better health very soon.
Thank you Lori! We are being cautiously optimistic at this point. Things seem to be slowly improving.
