We all know dog parks can be a little (or a lot) iffy at times. Well I found a new park and have gone there quite a few times since. It is spacious, has fun agility equipment, all the owners have been attentive and nice, and the dogs have all been accepting and playful. Such a great change from some parks! Ragley loves it and she has begun to recognize when we are on our way and gets so excited!

Weeeelllll...we went again today and had a blast, BUT then this guy pulls up with three dogs. I'm already thinking "wow, that seems like a lot to handle", but turns out they were all mellow and very friendly dogs. GOOD THING because the guy was on his phone the ENTIRE time we were there and was off away in a corner of the park facing away from all the dogs. I could have taken all three of them and driven off and he would have had no idea. Well, the real problem was that one of the dogs he brought had a huge mass (tumor maybe?) on one of his sides so I was thinking "poor guy", but then he turns and he has a giant gaping hole of a wound on his other side! Like, pink flesh open and exposed to the world! I was immediately concerned mostly for the dog (can you say infection risk??) but then also for Ragley and the others in the park. Who knows what kind of bacteria he is carrying if this is the kind of care he is receiving? Am I crazy? What on earth is happening here?

The owner was so clueless to the world that I was able to take some good pics to share with my DK peeps haha

Holy cow! That looks horrible...and painful! It looks like someone dug a bullet out with a salad knife. (I probably watch a few too many crime shows. LOL) The clueless picture is priceless!

OMG!

Ditto!

Anyone have any idea what might be going on with the dog? I have never seem anything like this on a dog!

Looks like some kind of puncture wound or sinus tract that has granulated a lot or of course it could be a malignant mass. Just sad and awful.

I caught it out of the corner of my eye and my immediate thought was "that dog has a stoma!" and then I shook my head and looked again and saw how awful it looked. I almost said something to the owner, but he was constantly on his phone and I decided to hold my tongue this time. I almost regret not speaking to him

No way he could not be aware of this.

I completely agree. If I am ever there again when he comes to the park, I will definitely be speaking with him. Is this something I should report to the park? I don't know how those things work...

Usually, at most dogparks, there is a sign somewhere near the entrance with a contact number. Not sure if it will do any good, but calling on the basis, the dog could possibly contagious with something, might make them take notice. I guess it couldn't hurt.

Thanks- I'll take a look next time we go

Is the park run by your town? May have some info on the City/ Town website.

Unbelievably sad that a wound is neglected like that...
