I know as many of us shop for pet insurance we worry about making the right decision when it comes to choosing a company.  I post this because we've had another really great claim experience with Pet Plan.  A couple months ago Murph started having anal gland issues.  I took him to the vet and he went on antibiotics and we had two visits with laser treatments.  Nothing seemed to help, so finally the Vet said she would have to anesthetize him and flush out the glands.  The total bills for the pre-visits with the laser treatments and the "surgery" totaled $1023.  I submitted a claim and today (just two weeks later) I received a check for $823 (I have a $200 deductible).  There were no questions asked.  The best news is that Murph is fine now...he had been really uncomfortable.  I've found that if you provide Pet Plan with the completed forms and medical history signed by the Vet, they provide really good claim service.  For us the premiums we've paid for Murph are significantly less than what has been paid out in claims....I'm so happy that we have this insurance.

We lost our Golden retriever in June. I submitted all the forms and info to PetPlan for all his vet bills. They paid with no problem but they deducted 2 $200 deductibles. I contacted them and explained that the visit in May was the beginning of the end for poor Ben. The gal sent me the proper appeal forms to fill out. I sent them back in with a letter from the vet explaining why all the visits were related. They refunded us the additional $200!!! No problem!!!!

Been a member of PP several years now with no MAJOR claims ... and my "minimal" claims have always been very POSITIVE over the years (@4 yrs).

Newbies... the price you get is only good for ONE YEAR -- next year they could be bought out by another health plan company with a totally new policy -- yes, it has happened and continues to happen with this plan (like your own health plan).

DONT get LAZY and assume everything stays the SAME -- READ/REVIEW ... And then choose what is right for you and that doodle.

Thank you for posting, Jane. It is good to hear positives about insurance also.

I just had a great experience with them as well..paid all Jacks vet bills minus my little part!

Does anyone know when conditions or illnesses are covered once you get a policy?? I had read somewhere on the site that it is 30 days, but now it says 24 hours for accidents, 14 days for illness and 6 months for knees. I'd like it know for sure if it is 14 days vs. 30 days before I get insurance. I'm not sure if I should get insurance before I bring my guy home just in case-since the policy would be pretty much effective at that point and technically most anything would be covered.

Nevermind--just read ALL the fine print and the waiting period is 14 days.

That's what it was for us with Petplan. Will they sell you insurance for a dog that you don't own yet? Just curious.

Apparently they cover dogs starting at 6 weeks old. I didn't want to get it that early, he's just in his 6th week now, I wasn't sure if it was illegal lol. But I figured there would be no harm in getting it the same week that I'll be getting the pup. They just ask for the animal's birthdate.

Interesting...well, it will be nice to have it in place that's for certain. I'll bet you're counting the days until your baby comes home! Enjoy!
