Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Finnley has almost reached the year and a half milestone. She had her first haircut at 6 months, and her second, 6 months later, and then a third (trim up), 1 month after that. All went well, and she always has looked great, and her doodle-ness always remained intact.
Just before her 6 month puppy cut.
Late spring

UNTIL YESTERDAY !!

I took Finnley to her regular groomer Doreen, only to find that Doreen was out sick. Okay, I could deal with that.
I explained to the woman taking Doreen's place that I knew Finnley was a bit matted in spots, from rolling, and laying in the fall leaves. I brush her regularly, but sometimes, mattes happen ! Told her to leave her tail, and face, I just wanted to see her eyes a bit more. Weeelll, I can definitely see her eyes now.... and everything else !!

Obviously this particular grooming will last for awhile, before she becomes my woolly bear doodle again.
No sense flipping out, what's done is done, and she IS kind of rocking the much skinnier Poodle look.
I'm a bit disappointed, but lesson learned. WAIT for DOREEN next time !!!
In the meantime, I am still looking at the glass half full. She is healthy and frisky, and now I am NOT begging her to come in the house, because she is hot and wants to stay outside ! See, it's all good.

Have a great weekend.
YESTERDAY !!!!
Holy Doodle, she looks sad doesn't she ?

I am thinking about at least rounding off the ears. She is quite soft, and that does feel very nice.

Sheila ~ before the short cut, did you have her ears longer than they are now?   If her head and muzzle were fuller I doubt you would notice them.  She is still a very beautiful girl! Enjoy this time, because before you know it, she will be long again and require much more grooming! LOL

Linda, her ears were longer. The muzzle was the real shocker !

Stella, do you trim them yourself?  With scissors or clippers?  We groom Myla and they ears are getting kind of ratty looking - I never thought of trimming them!

You're a better woman than I Sheila.....I'd have gone a little nuts and probably argued about the bill for services NOT requested.    I guess we've all learned that it DOES grow out....and it's funny but it's a bit like having a new dog.   A whole new look and feel!    Finnley,,,,,,you're beautiful short or long!

Well Carol it has bee 24 hours now and I guess that even though it still takes me by surprise a bit when I look at her, it is growing on me. Today she looked very regal and statuesque. It almost seem like she is sitting straighter and taller. She looks almost proud. Kind of funny. I'm sure she has always had that look, it was just harder to recognize under all that hair ! LOL

Whoops - got that one too short.  I would also round off the ears and then forget about it.  It will be grown out soon.  Maybe stick with the puppy cuts.  She looks like a poodle without the poof on top.  Shorter ears will help.  And how about the tail?  Is it a doodle tail?

She took a whack at the tail too Lynda. She shaved it half way, and stopped just below the spot where it curls. So the last 6, or 8 inches is still doodle. Whew, that probably would have been the deal breaker, in the my accepting what was done disposition. I'm sure if the tail had been de-doodled, it would have gotten very ugly !

I actually like the new look and have thought about doing it to Murphy on several occasions. I know he has a long narrow snout too and will look so different. But at least I would have done it myself and know what to expect. I feel the same as you, in a world of bad stuff that can happen, this's is not one of those things to get yourself all upset about. But on the other hand, I'd be darned if I would pay for something I was so disappointed in after giving such clear directions. But that's me.
PS. I like her ears as they are too. She's just a beauty, beard or no beard!

Thank you Sue !
