Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone,

After weeks and weeks of researching and dog sitting my wife and I have settled that we wanted goldendoodle as our first pet.  I've been in contact with a GoldenDoodle breeder and she has this little girl.   The mom is a purebred Golden Retriever and Dad is a purebred Toy Poodle.  So a F1. The breeder says that "she has a very flat coat which is unusual" and is "easy to pick out" from the rest of the litter.

What do you guys think?  Any pictures of your pups who look like this girl and adult pictures?  Although I think a coat like a golden retriever is beautiful, my concern is shedding.  I don't mind a nice wavy and fluffy coat, just not curly.

THANKS!

Awwwwwwwwwww, such a cute puppy.  This does look like a flat coat.  I know they say that the flat coat sheds more than the curly coat but it's still not to the degree that a golden retriever sheds.  This puppy has such a sweet innocent face!  I think she is adorable!

I think she's adorable, but i can almost guarantee you that she is going to shed, and she may shed quite heavily as an adult. My labradoodle sheds just as much as a purebred Lab, and he is not flatcoated, just straight coated.

There are some breeders who are breeding F1s back to Retrievers, and technically they are F1Bs. Does this puppy have one purebred poodle parent and one goldendoodle parent?

If shedding is a concern for you, and you don't like a curly coat, your best option would be an ALD. Most ALDs from reputable breeders have wavy fleece coats that are not curly, but they usually don't shed much if at all.

My mistake, she's a mini F1. The mom is a purebred Golden Retriever and Dad is a purebred Toy Poodle.

You can also get some structural problems when you breed two dogs with such an extreme difference in size.

be sure that the parents have both been tested for genetic diseases such as hip dysplasia. Here is our article on What to look for in a Breeder. If this breeder does not match up to these very basic guidelines, shedding might be the least of your problems.

I'm NOT an expert here, but I had a golden & now have an F1b ...this pup looks more golden than anything else.....there is nothing physically at this point that speaks to the poodle in this Doodle...unless its her intellect...??? Just saying....the eyes, the lack of facial hair...screams golden to me...which translates into Shedder
Not interested in being a bubble buster..just being realistic!!

I do see a bit of facial hair (facial furnishings is actually the term for it) on her muzzle.

I don't agree. Here is my F1 Goldendoodle, at 8 weeks and at 8 years. You never when they will sprout, lol

Wow, quite a transformation! Does he (or she) shed at all?

I had a golden retriever in the house for the first 6 years of Kramer's life, so it was hard to tell who was doing the shedding. It does appear though that Kramer does shed some, but far less than my golden did.

Wow, what a change. It just tell you that you never know what you are going to get with a doodle.

Kramer's ears were a little more "wavy" as a pup, wonder if that makes any difference.  I did have a question, Sue, my boy is just over a year old and his coat is not as long and/or thick as we thought it would get (which in Florida is not a bad thing.)  How old was Kramer when he "filled out" and his man-coat grew in?  THANKS!

As far as I can remember I guess it was somewhere around 8-9 months. Here is Kramer's 9 month pic.

Here is is around 4 months.
