Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My mini Goldendoodle, Katie, is 8 months and has just started to

be fixated by shadows.  She sometimes sits by the hour and

lunges at them or stares at them.  Has anyone else experienced

this?  Any input would be appreciated...

By any chance have you used one of those laser lights to play with her and had her chasing the light?
No I haven't used a laser light but her doggie daycare has!! Boy, am I going to tell them to
quit using it when she's around. I read the discussion on here on Laser Lights and am
glad I didn't get one...
We had just bought one when we saw the first article on the issues it can cause. We tossed it right in the trash.
Gotta love them puppies. Enjoy. When they grow up they know better. :) I never had an imaginary friend when I was five but kids do. Maybe your silly puppy has one. Take him to a dog park??

Okay, my dog looked at his reflection for hours and hours and hours in the mirror. I got another dog :)
If your dog stared a its own reflection in the mirror it must have been female- lol.
I can't believe that even the dogs have problems like compulsive behaviors. Go figure.
OMG - Bentley Foster Schnoodle was OBSESSED by his reflection in the mirror. He would walk up to, bump his nose, then start barking. He would wildly whip around to see if the "other" dog would too. He also liked to just stare at his handsome schnoodly face.
My Goldendoodle Wrigley suffers from OCD. Saying she was obsessed with shadows puts it lightly! I've written a few things on some other discussions, but if you can't find them feel free to contact me on my page.
Lucy and Sophie's mom asked just what I was going to ask... There is so much on the use of laser pointers and OCD in dogs on-line... I can't believe a doggy day care would not KNOW that!
OMG, yes. Samson is obsessed with birds. Mostly robins because they are so big and he wants to chase them, catch them, etc. He pulled me thru the mud once trying to get one, he also has jumped up into my Bay window and went bizerk when he saw one out the window!! Luckily, he did not break the window, as I thought he was going to. I have a Dogtra e-collar that I HAVE to put on him when he acts this way because I am afraid he will hurt himself (i.e., break glass). I use the vibrate setting on him and he stops immediately. It does come in useful when you don't want your doodle to hurt himself. I know that training was tried with this problem to no avail. I guess he will outgrow it someday. In the meantime, I am going to protect him this way.
Yes, well, don't think I didn't tell the Doggy Daycare! They said they don't do it much- ha!
It is really working to distract her, but this dog is wearing me out. I forgot what puppies
were like. Oh well, she'll grow up someday and then her obsessions will probably just
get bigger, lol.
