Show Sheen really helps. It is a leave in product. I think it also makes it easier to comb out the next time. It also makes the hair very soft.
Looks like you guys had a blast! I use John Paul Pet Oatmeal Conditioner on my doodle, Sophie. I can't imagine life without it now. It makes brushing after a bath a BREEZE! I also feel like it makes it easier to brush her throughout the week. I bathe her about once every week - week and a half. I got mine on amazon prime.
I'd be interested in knowing if anyone uses a leave-in conditioner/detangler also. Ragley loves swimming and the tangles are quite a job to work through! I'll be following...
I'm wondering about spraying in a product called The Stuff. It is a spray detangler that I use after baths. It makes the coat really silky soft and helps repel dirt. I think I'll take it the next time and spray it into his coat when he gets out the last time. I'll report back ;-)
I use it and a lot of people love a similar product called Cowboy magic.
Myla loves swimming and hates being brushed so we did have a problem but we bought a comb with the rotating tines and it's great. We've found that it works great if we comb her as soon as she dries out after swimming. If we leave it for a few days (after swimming daily) it takes longer and then Myla gets anxious. I bought it at the Superstore for under $5.
I have used leave in conditioners on Myla but I find that the dirt seems to stick to her fur when she has it on and since Myla seems to find dirt to roll in wherever we go I've shied away from it - mainly because she also hates baths ;)
I've gotta say, after all the research and purchases...there is nothing like a really short haircut for the summer. I just gave GracieDoodle hers yesterday. She looks so skinny but it is so easy to take care of if they are in the water all the time. I have tried all the conditioners and sprays. Some of the sprays help with tangles but if you don't want to be a slave daily to brushing and combing, then get a short cut. I have Gracie at about 1/2" everywhere except her head and face. Of course, the tail is still long because she has a beautiful Golden Retriever tail. When the hair is long it takes forever to dry and then for me it was almost 2 hours of combing and clipping mats and knots out. So not worth the beautiful long coat we like to dress our Doodles in. One short haircut will get you through the summer!
I agree Nancie. Before our beach vacation this year my boys are going to be cut way down. They'll be more comfortable and it will eliminate all that brushing that they hate so much.
Agree
Plus, does it ever dry. Here in Humid Ohio,it never does and the dogs begin to smell like spoiled laundry that never dried. Ugh.
