Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all!
I am new to this forum, but am so glad I found it! I have 2 small medium Austrailan Labradoodles, and we are adding a third. My current dogs are bred Aus. Labradoodle x Austrailan Labradoodle. We are looking into adding a 3rd which is a cross between a 3rd generation cockapoo and an Aust. Labradoodle. . What I'm concerned about is that the puppy will turn out looking like a cockapoo... not that they are not adorable, but we are looking for the medium stocky Austrailan Labradoodle with a silky wavy coat. I tried to research it, but couldn't find any concrete info on it. If anyone has had any experience with this I would surely appreciate it! Thanks!

There are and always have been, Cockapoos all through the ALD pedigrees. Many ALD breeders breed back to a Cockapoo, and the litters are still sold as ALDs. The ALAA website has info on Cockapoo infusions. http://alaa-labradoodles.com/InfusionGuidelines.html
Has this breeder produced other litters from these parents, or similar pairings? Perhaps she could show you pictures of the puppies?
You might also want to ask this question in the Australian Labradoodles Group here, where the members all have ALDs and may have dogs with similar parentage: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/australianlabradoodles
I have a mini ALD, and one generation removed the ALD was back bread to a Cockapoo. I believe that was because they were going for a smaller size. My guy has more of a curly coat, but is totally non shedding. He is smaller than either of his parents.
My daughter has a small ALD and there are cockapoos in his lineage. If you have concerns about too much cockapoo in your new puppy's makeup, why not go with an ALD from a breeder who has not infused cockapoos in their lines.
I'm no expert but the original ALD was lab and poodle with infusions of English cocker, American cocker, and Irish Water Spaniel -- then bred ALD to ALD for multiple generations. At least that's the story. For all her faults (and there are many allegedly), the original breeder of ALDs produced a pretty consistent type of dog that was close to a breed in type and temperament. The ALCA is closest to that standard, allowing only one infusion of poodle going back 3 generations. The ALAA, on the other hand, allows infusion of any of the foundation breeds as well as cockapoo, without oversight, and it seems, at least to me, that the ALD we've all come to know, will change significantly with this approach - but like I said, I'm no expert. Meanwhile the folks back in Australia started infusing wheaten terrier into their lines a while back and as lovely as wheatens are, introducing a terrier into the bloodlines brings out a completely different temperament - or it would seem so, as anyone who's ever owned a terrier will tell you (me included). Now that I've probably completely confused you :) my ALD is a stocky medium ALD with one infusion of standard poodle -his grandmother --and is registered with the ALCA. Maybe Ginny will weigh in here as a breeder/expert.
I am hardly an expert, but I have heard that if american labradoodle breeders infuse cockapoo into their lines, they can then call their labradoodles Australian labradoodles--I don't know if that is an ALAA rule or what, but I have heard it a few times from breeders.
The Labradoodle/cockapoo crosses I have seen sometimes have a more cocker-like head with large eyes, but not always--some are very labby--you just have to look over the pups carefully.
