Quincy spent the day at PetSmart daycare- his 4th or 5th time there. He pulls me into the door in the AM and comes out exhausted and happy. The staff knows him by name, and is attentive and caring when I am there. I do not have concerns about the care he is given....that being said.,
Tonight he barfed white stuff while still there, again in the car and a few time once home. We let take some water, he barfed that later, and is (as he has always been post day care) very subdued..
the vomit is clear (sorry queasy stomachs), in between he is fine but very tired, just resting his head and not looking for food. He was like that on the other times he was there though-he just seems to be tired from play.
so I feel like am just on watch for the night --- i am hoping it is over excitement from running around like a loon all day at day camp? yesterday he did get into a lot of sticks outside that he pulverized.
I am not planing on feeding him his dinner tonight...just water if he wants, but he had not gone near.
my gooodness---I am thinking this will be an all nighter with vomit interludes. Shades of our son when we where a lot younger...
any words of encouragement that this is just a TOO FUN FILLED day for the doodle? i remember that my son might have those over excited kind of days, but is it the same for a dog?

I have to agree that the symptoms do tend to lean toward kennel cough. Waiting to hear what the vet says but if it IS KC, it's highly contagiuous so be forewarned. Also, it can take anywhere from 3 - 6 weeks for symptoms to clear up. A humidifier or vaporizer does actually work as does the steam from a hot shower. It's been a very long time since I was around a dog with kennel cough so maybe others here (if that's what it is) will have other recommendations. Good Luck!!!
I'd like to point out that kennel cough is not really a vaccine preventable disease because of the numerous factors associated (example - the limited agents in the vaccine vs. the number of agents that can transmit or bring the virus on) It’s like a doggie cold, highly contagious but easy to avoid if you know the rules of the game. Many boarding, grooming, and day care facilities require the Bordetella vaccine (mine does) but the vax is one of those that are ultimately controversial. To vaccinate or not…that is the question.
** This is my personal understanding of the virus and vaccine, please don't be hatin' on me as I'm willing to learn more and educate myself if my information is incorrect.
That is what I read as well. One holistic vet on U Tube is against the vaccine since she feels it is toxic. Guess the same controversy exists as it does in children's vaccinations.
I hope Quincy feels better soon. It's always a worry when they are sick and we don't know why.
Here's hoping that Quincy is feeling better!
Quincy ate a full breakfast with no problem. About 20 minutes later he had another coughing fit-spit up clear stuff again, but no food. I am now certain it is not GI and it is likely kennel cough. We are off to the vet later this afternoon. His first illness! He seems fine except for the cough.
Awwww....hope Quincy feels better soon. OK, just reading update. Yep, a trip to the vet sounds good. Probably kennel cough. Fudge had this when she was young and I alerted the daycare and she could not come back for two weeks, I believe.
How scary. I sure hope that it is kennel cough as that sounds better than something stuck. At least he kept the food down which is good. Please let us know what the vet says.
Hoping Quincy feels better soon.
Just read this today and I hope Quincy is doing better and you can get him into the vet! Poor Guy, he goes and has some fun and now sick, not fair:(
what meds do you give to treat Kennel cough?
I took our puppy to vet today because we thought something was stuck and he was hacking. I was shocked to find out he had Kennel Cough. Our vet gave us Clavamox (antibiotic) and a cough suppressant I think it is Hydrocodone. I tried giving him the cough suppressant and he threw it up. He kept his dinner down and I was able to give him his Clavamox. Any other ideas??
Thanks so much.
