Rose Ann, I am more concerned about WHY his breath is so bad?? Have you asked your vet or had his mouth examined lately? It seems odd that it would be so bad for NO reason..and he is so young...

I don't know of any products, etc. but would encourage you to try to get to the "why" first, if you haven't already...

Could it be  chewing on antlers or because he loosing teeth!
Rose Ann, I agree with Ricki that it seems strange that his breath is so bad when he is still a pup. I have noticed that chewing antlers has helped my 4 year old doodle's breath. My 1 year old still has sweet breath.
Thank you! I have recently been to vet and she checked him mouth and she even commented that he only had his K-9 left to loose. I thought it may be that I recently started giving him  an antler to chew on.  Are there specific questions I should ask vet. Or something I should see if I check?

Okay, here is a few possibilities but I have no idea, really...

1. has he been eating fertilizer... my husband used fish fertilizer for a while and the dogs breath could knock us over.

2. tooth abscess

3. upset stomach

4. I even wonder if he had an ear infection that you may be smelling that. Smell his ears to check.

Hoping someone has better ideas if these don't help.

Here is a link to a site discussing bad breath in dogs and the possible causes and treatments. I wouldn't think that at antler would do anything unless it is really upsetting his stomach.

I just read some other web site forums and it seems that other people's pups have gotten bad breath while they were teething. It then resolved once the teething ended. If your vet has checked his mouth without finding any oral issues than perhaps it is just part of the teething issue.
Rose Ann, my Curly had horrible breath while she was teething, her gums would bleed causing bad breath. She also had a hematoma under a molar, after she lost that baby tooth her breath drastically got better.
Bummer-I hope that it's just part of the teething process!
I seem to remember that Jane's Stuart also had this problem.  Maybe she can give you some insight....you might want to message her.
Stuart as a baby had the WORST bad breath ever to the point that I couldn't bond or feel love to him - it was that offensive.  I don't know if it was because of his parasites or the medicine he was on mixed with puppy breath, I never found the cause one day it was just gone.  There are drops that you can buy at Petco or Petsmart that you add to his water - kinda like mouthwash for dogs - that might help.  If this just started - I'd be asking why.  Have you changed food or treats?  Could he be eating some poo?
