So I caught Bandit all of the sudden chewin on his leg and upon futher inspection it was a scab, a big scab he was chewin off.  I got he flea comb out and combed out the rest and underneath is a pretty deep (hard to tell how deep) puncture.  I called the vet and they said I could bring him in but maybe try to clean it and then put a pressure bandage on it.  It is about 1/4" wide and again I can't see how deep but is was oozing some blood.  Any thoughts on a cause or suggestions for treatment?  How concerned should I be?  I tried taking a pic but  it was hard to get an accurate pic.

This one you can kind of tell how deep it is.

Clancy just recovered from a sore on his paw between his toes that was kind of nasty looking. We put peroxide on it and medicine from the vet that we keep on hand for everything from ear infections to hot spots. We kept a child's sock on it (as much as we could) and it took about a week but has healed.

Nurse Gracie here...checking in. Little Bandit what has been going on??? You need to let your mommy know the minute you get an owie. She isn't going to yell at you for doing something that you shouldn't have done. She wants to be able to take care of you and make sure your owie doesn't get infected. That's one of those things mommies do. They worry about us and take good care of us. Just wanted to let you know I am here on stand by if you need me. Hope it heals up really fast! I'm sending you lots of healing love...Tara Baby...not to worry. I am an older woman and we all know you and Bandit are an item!!!!
Nurse Gracie, you are too cute for words!
Nurse Gracie, you could have a full time job at our house! I have been doing extra cuddles with mommy so hopefully that will help the hole close up faster. I have been pretty good not chewin' on my bandage. Mom says its time to change it and put some ointments on so we will keep you posted on my progress. You look really pretty in your hat!!
Good girl, Gracie!! Tara
Nurse Gracie - love the cap!!! It is a good thing YOU don't belong to the naked doodle club because you look wonderful!
Ohhhhhhh...I could never be totally NAKED!!!! After all, I am a lady!!!!
Bandit just because your mommy got pet insurance you don't have to try it out so much - although you are helping her get her money's worth! I hope you start to heal soon without a trip to the vet - maybe some nice treats would help and being carried since it is your leg after all. We're sending good thoughts and doodle hugs your way.
Our go to boo boo medicine has always been Neosporin (sp?) for our dogs (and daughter). It doesn't sting and it feels good. Since he is letting you wrap it I would put that under the cotton ball after it is all cleaned out with Hydrogen Peroxide. It's really a good thing about it scabbing over - probably the reason he was chewing at it was because it gets itchy as it is healing, problem is our four legged babies don't tolerate itchy. Now that it is open again you have an opportunity to treat it with antibiotic cream.

Doodle kisses to you from Daisy Bandit (don't worry Tara she likes bigger boys).
Daisy you are a good girl too!! You can have all those big bad boys. They scare me and I hide behind mommy when I see them! Tara
It looks like you got some great advice. I sure hope he's doing better this morning. Murph & Guinness have a message of their own....

Thanks guys!!! Guiness you look just my size, would love to hang out with you buddy!
