Have any of you out there heard of or been to this place called Barkwells? It is located in North Carolina and is pretty much a 7 acre fenced in area with about 6 or 7 cabins on it and a huge pond. It is especially for people who want to travel with there dogs and indulge them to the fullest! DH and I are thinking about booking a vacation there next summer! If you've been I would love to hear your experience! If not, check it out here. Or read the awesome reviews here. 33 reviews of EXCELLENT sure makes it sound like a heavenly place for dogs and humans!!! I WANNA GO NOW! Anyone else???

ooohh, this is exactly the kind of thing I could have used last winter. I wonder what the winter is like in NC? I wish I had someone to go with. Would it be weird if it was just me and the doodles?
I don't think the winters are bad there, but they do get snow.
Looks like heaven (for owners and pets)!
I would bring Chewie to BarkWells this weekend if the place wasn't 9000 miles away :(
We actually really enjoyed our stay here BUT had a few major complaints. I live in Raleigh NC and met my sister from IL at this resort which seemed perfect because we both have dogs and like to include them as part of the family. She and her husband brought their 2 dogs and my husband and I brought our 3. Barkwell's policy is to return your deposit by mail after you check out. A week after we left we were told we would not get our deposit back because they believed we had a 6th dog that we had not paid for. Which was simple not true :( This was a very shady and dishonest way to make some extra money. And will be the reason we do not return. Also there were mice in the cabin and several mouse traps which our dogs found. Furthermore the water pressure was very bad. There were 3 bathrooms in our cabin but if any other water was running you could not use the shower. Lastly we were further charged for a pendent light in the kitchen that was broken. The light was supposed to be over the kitchen table, but the table had been repositioned so my sister's husband cracked his head on it. Breaking the light fixture and leaving his scalp bleeding and bruised. We immediately went to the office to make them aware and the staff was very apologetic and said it was their fault ant that the table had been moved when cleaning and should have been put back under the light. The seemed truly concerned about the injury and said we would not be charged and replaced the globe on the light that day. Yet after check out they listed that as an additional reason not to return our deposit. Very disappointed in their dishonesty because we paid a lot to stay there for 2 nights and it is so hard to find nice places to stay with your dogs.
