BEE STING

Haley just got stung on foot by a bee. Can't find stinger. What should I do? It's really bothering him.

Jarka, I use a metal meat tenderizer.  I had a wooden one but I wore it out.  lol

For humans, you also give an antihistamine.  I would assume it might be beneficial for dogs also.

Thanks Nancy.  I will ask the vet about it for the future.  Haley is fine now but he was really miserable for a little while and I just wanted to get him some relief.  For me, I just rub raw onion on the spot.  It stops the pain quickly.

I will have to try raw onion. Last time I was stung it throbbed for hours even after I tried treating it.

I have heard that there are epi pens for dogs that are allergic to bee venom.

That's good to know.  Haley's not allergic but was in pain.  He kept shaking his paw and licking it.  I know how he felt because I have been stung on a toe several times a year until I got smart and quit wearing sandals in the yard when the clover is blooming.

So glad Mr. Haley is better.  Alma got stung a few days ago.  I treated it right away and she didn't have a bad reaction, thank goodness.

Though I'm a little late, I just wanted to share that a few months ago, Zeus stepped on a wasp. I saw it happen and immediately pulled it out, but the stinger had already lodged into his paw. His foot was stinging and starting to swell, and he couldn't walk on it.

I grabbed some cotton balls, soaked them with vinegar, and pressed them on his paw for a few seconds, then repeated the process about 3 more times, every 10 minutes. It immediately helped with the stinging. In the meantime, I texted a friend (who is a vet) and she told me to give Zeus Benadryl capsules orally in a specific dose based on his weight. Zeus was walking without a limp within about 1 hour of being stung.

If this ever happens again, I'm going to treat it with the same method because I already know it works fast.
