Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Well believe it or not, but I got so involved with raising Maggie (and two boys) that I completely dropped out of the Doodle Kisses scene. But I missed this place and I would really like to jump back in.
Maggie just turned 10 months on April 2. She has been to Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes. I am not spending nearly as much time and devotion into her training as I imagined I would before this whole new life started. But despite that, she is a good girl with a really loving temperament. There is no amount of rascal-ness that I see that isn't a result of my own lack of attention. Working on myself now.
She is a standard doodle and I think she is in the low 50 pound range about now. Give or take. The main thing she wants in life is to be with us. Anywhere. Anyway. She knows what it means when I say "Should we get in the car and pick up Nicholas and Benjamin from school?" Oh boy. Let's bounce around in circles about that one. We have a pretty decent dog park in town and I am getting braver about it. Now that the weather is getting nicer, and she is a bit older, I am feeling more confident in taking her there. She spends the whole time trying to get other dogs to run with her. Some are in to it, others not. Depends. If the other dogs aren't into playing she starts to work the crowd of owners standing around. She walks well around the neighborhood. My 11 1/2 year old son does a lot of the walking after school and she is good for him. She still thinks my 8 year old son is another puppy/chew toy... but that's his fault. He sits there and acts like a puppy/chew toy so what can I say.
Generally when people meet Maggie they see a whole lot of enthusiasm and energy. People always comment on how happy she seems. That's right. If you are looking at her, she is a happy girl. Ignore her at your own peril. She has ways of commanding your attention.
So Maggie is awesome, but far from perfect. I am nowhere near the perfect owner I intended to be. I think I am good enough (and am lucky I have a good natured dog) and I can do a whole lot better. But she is our sweetheart. She fits the personality of our family perfectly. I remind myself it has only been 10 months. We have a lot of life ahead of us.
Here is Maggie... she is fresh from the groomers yesterday

Welcome back. Maggie is just darling. I have totally imperfect doods also, but I love them and they love imperfect me.
Maggie is a beauty! So glad to hear and update on how your family and your doodette are doing.
Wow, what a beauty Maggie is! I love your descriptions of her behavior - bouncing around, trying to get other dogs to run with her, working the crowd, using your son as a chew toy... What is it about this poodle / retriever combination that makes dogs not quite like any others? I also love how you take responsibility. I can well relate to being the less than perfect human companion!
Enjoy Maggie and welcome back!
Welcome back! Beautiful girl! She looks a lot like my Cooper with the apricot ears, except he is a mini.
Hello sweet Maggie, you and Mom are going to be so happy you came back.
AWWW! She's really cute! I had been wondering where you want, but it's good to hear from you again! I also have two boys, so I understand the busyness. I disappeared from DK a little while after I first got Bexter, but now I'm back & going strong! You can't stay away from DK very long! Bexter is almost a year old, and he's still not perfect & of course I'm not either. I think it's like when you had your kids - you kind of have all these plans to be a "perfect mom" and then real life gets in the way! You may not be perfect, but you are perfect for Maggie! By the way - If you look at my page, I have a Maggie now too! I just got her a few weeks ago, but she is Bexter's age. She's a sweetie! Good name!
Glad you're back....Maggie is so pretty!
Maggie is adorable-welcome back!!
