I'm just wondering if this calls for a little panic, or a whole lot of over the top rush to the vet panic.
Sophie was really rambunctious and running around jumping off the furniture and what not. Worried about my neighbour in the apartment below me knocking on the door I put her in the crate to settle down a bit. She was pretty annoyed that she was in her crate and started banging on the door to be let out. I ignored her because that is not how I want her to think she cana get my attention.
There was a little hard plastic bowl in her crate from this morning (I sometimes give her a little bit of yogurt and some cranberry powder mixed in). Anyway, I was sitting at my comptuer and heard 'crunch crunch crunch'. I jumped up and went to investigate and found this:
I tried to fit all the pieces back into place but there are pieces missing that are now presumably in Sophie's tummy. The plastic is hard and jagged.
So how much should I be panicking right now??? Because I'm really scared that this will cause damage. What do I do???

lol maryann, that's exactly what I need valium white bread. I guess this pales in comparison to razor blades. I am realizing now that I am over reacting a bit. She and winston eat sticks sometimes and nothing happens. I will give her another peanut butter and vaseline sandwich in the morning.
My daughter's Yorkie once ate several disposable razor handles - fortunately no blades. For several days after the incident, she had to rub a numbing ointment on his, ummm, how do I say this delicately, little butt hole so that he wouldn't be afraid to poop!
ha ha Maryann.
thanks! I've sifted through vomit before, I'm sure I can sift through poop. :)
Okay, I've stopped panicking, too, lol. I hope everything passes easily.
Sophie - bad girl! But what's a doodle to do? Hope everything comes out alright ;)
Hope everything comes out alright... :-)
Sherri, I hope everything passes through fine :) Sophie, You are a naughty little Doodle for scaring your mom.
It seems like a big responsibility being thought of as a voice of reason but here I am at last : ) I always try to think what would the doc/vet do? In this case vomiting not a good idea? That sounds reasonable since those sharp pieces could do a lot on damage during violent retching. Then the next step is surgery. No way you want to do that unless you need to so the only choice really is to watch and wait. It's hard but the thing to do.
Vets are not magicians who can extract anything from a dog. So if it's not poisonous or toxic, then medical support, medications, monitoring, IVs won't help. If a blockage or bleeding occurs then clearly the dog needs to go to a hospital. But short of that many things will pass through but if complications develop then you deal with them. Any way that's how I see it.
