Pulling On A Leash: Have any of you used a Thunder Leash? If so, did it work to keep your doodle from pulling on the leash? Is there anything else that is better? Ace is very strong, and walking him is tough for us.
Thanks!

When i took my dog Brody to obedience class the instructor required we use a training collar. Either a gentle leader, or a herm sprenger prong training collar. I tried the gentle leader first and Brody couldn't stand having something over his nose so we switched to the herm sprenger prong collar. It has worked like a charm! Whenever I walk Brody now he is always at my side and never pulls. I know some people are against prong collars but I think if get the right one and make sure it fits correctly it could really be helpful for you!

http://freedomnopullharness.com/      I have two standard doodles and purchased every training harness imaginable before I found these.  Been using these for 2-3 years.  Love them.

There are lots of different collars and harnesses that are excellent tools for teaching "loose leash walking or heeling".  Different tools work better than others, and I think it really depends on the dog.  In my opinion the real answer is obedience training....teaching the dog HOW you want them to walk with you.  That involves correcting behaviors that you want to change and rewarding the behaviors that you want to keep.  Different trainers use different tools, so to some degree the method you are using to train your dog will direct what tool you would use.  Have you done any training yet?

Sawyer also HATED the Gentle Leader. I went to Petco and got this:

Works like a charm and it's been 3 years and he now weighs 91 lbs! He never pulls.

Good luck!

The Thunder Leash is a retractable leash.  These kind of leashes are not safe.

I'm interested in suggestions or ideas too.  We have finally gotten Murphy to walk nicely under normal circumstances.  However, when there is a dog on the other side of a fence or an animal in view he goes crazy.  You can see the muscles bunch up as he tries to pull with all his might.  Two years of working on it hasn't helped a bit and we already use a gentle leader.  He doesn't care that it is pulling on his nose, he still tries to drag us to get to the dog.  Since he isn't trying to play but wants to attack, its important that we stop him.  I'm so tired of my shoulders hurting after a walk.

I also had that issue. I use Gentle leader during obedience classes because without it she can be crazy and pull me down. at home I use a martingale collar. She has been doing better using the combo of the two. she never knows which one I am going to use. lol
