Any recommendations for car safety restraints? I admit we are lax and Cooper just sits in the back (he's great--stays put, lies down) and never causes problems. That said, I know that this isn't safe for him or us. Back when he was a puppy we did try a harness for the car but it didn't work too well. I guess that might be our only option...or is it. Anyway, if folks have recos on brands/products we'd greatly appreciate it.
There was a discussion on this recently... but I'm not sure where. I have seen screens you can set up between your back and front seat... I think they sell them for around 20 bucks at Petsmart. I don't think it's the safest option, but if harnesses don't work... I use a harness, the "American Tourister" brand, from Petsmart. It works great, and since it attaches to a shoulder belt, they can lay down and move around if they need to. Here is a photo of him using it.
Thanks, these are all some great options to look at. Adina, in your reply on last year's thread you noted the good place for the Champion K9--it was the one in CO. Had come across the other place previously and there did seem to be something off about them.
I also use the Champion K9 harness/tether. You don't want to restrain them around their neck because you could snap it if in an accident. The harness keeps them more secure. With the Champion K9 the Doodle is able to lay down. Some harnesses they are not able to. I am pretty sure that one of the three links that Adina sent we discussed this and the link to purchasing this harness was given.
We always use car safety harness's for our two doodles, that way if my HB has to stop short they do not fall forward. They also can lie down or sit up with no problem.
