So I am not sure if I should be concerned or not. Sonny used to have a black nose. However, it seems to be turning more pink/brown. It almost looks like the color has just worn off . It is still black around his nostrils and under that but the tip and top half is pinkish. I have noticed this happening the past few months now.He is almost 2 (where did my puppy go??)  and is acting normal. He doesn't seem sick or unhealthy at all. Is it normal for a dogs nose to change color after time? (haha, my 5 year old just came in to announce that she asked Sonny if his nose was turning pink, lol  I don't think she likes it!)

Thanks for any thoughts or information!

I just told Sunny that she better turn her nose back to black or I'll have to go get my Sharpie... kidding!

I am liking the sharpie idea!!! They do say it's permanent!! lol
I just went back and read all the past posts that Caitlin linked us to.  I just don't know if I buy the lack of sun.  Gracie Doodle is out in the sun every day and believe me...we have a lot of sun in Southern California!!!  Yes, there are overcast days but the sunny days far outweigh the overcast...I just have a hard time believing it is the sun!  Also, she is a GD so I think I read that Golden's noses do not change!
Did the poodle that was her parent have a black nose? Maybe it's a color fade gene type thing?

Here is a picture of Gracie's Mom Roxie...looks like the nose is still black!!!

I don't think that genetics just go back one generation though. Tara's mom had a rose nose and amber eyes. The breeder told us that SOME of the puppies could end up with both or either or neither. So Gracie's grandmother or great grandmother (or fathers) could have had different colored noses that are appearing genetically in Gracies' generation.
Nancie, I just did a little Goggling about GR and nose color changes and it looks like it is pretty common in that breed too. I'm still going with genetics in Gracie's case! LOL!
Nancie, we are in Florida, so we usually have warm weather here too, Oliver is a GD too, and he is going to be 2 in April, this started happening about 6 mos ago I believe...

As I said there are 3 main causes.  Every dog's fading nose is not a lack of sun/vit D.

Golden's noses do change!

In your dog's case it could be a lack of pigmentation linked to genetics.  I explained it elsewhere that if either of the parents carried the dilute gene or were receive for chocolate that the black gene is weakened and points are not as strong thus causing fading and nothing can be done to change this.

Cooper's nose is  turning pink/brown too!  I just posted a pick of him smelling my Valentine's Day roses and you can see it there.  I am hoping he will get his dark nose back.  I like the contrast with his light fur, but I he is still huggable no matter what color his nose!
Have no fear, I wrote in  about this just a few months back.  It happened to my Oliver and I was told here that it is called Snow Nose.  It keeps changing periodicaslly, and I just laugh when I see it happening...Don't worry it is nothing....
So here is my theory on snow nose.  I don't entirely buy the idea of it being directly linked to exposure to sunlight, however I do think it is linked to the amount of sunlight (length of day).  I have notice that the days are beginning to get a bit longer here and I also notice that the black is starting to return to Gavin's nose.  I will post more results from my theory on June 21. lol.
