Recently Bella started having bloody stools with mucous, starting 2 days after going to the groomer. It started about 4-6 weeks ago. I took her to the vet and he tested her stool and it was negative so for 1 week she was on a bland diet of turkey and white rice and pepto and she was better so I started to feed her dog food again and the bloody stools with mucous started again so the vet put her on a medication for parasites. Again we started the Bland diet and the medication and she was better in a few days. Well last week after going back on her dog food she started again, I guess now we can say it may be the dog food and not a parasite that is causing this problem. Can anyone give suggestions on what dog food to use after taking Bella off her bland diet? She has been on Rachael Ray Nutrish which is the one giving her the problem I am guessing. Any suggestions would be very helpful!!

Tina, please check the Recommended Brands list in The Food Group; in fact, please join the Food Group. It's a very extensive list, and there are also lots of discussions about the best foods for dogs with sensitive stomachs there.
Nutrish is not a very good food at all. In fact, it's one of the worst ones out there.
There is really nothing your groomer could have done that would cause a digestive issue, other than possibly give some treats that didn't agree with Bella; but that wouldn't have caused bloody stools for weeks.
Mucous and blood in the stools indicates a possible infection, inflammation, or ulceration of the GI tract. Bella may have a serious food intolerance. In choosing a new food, I would go with a limited ingredient food that contains different protein sources than the current food. There are lots of choices on our Recommended Brands list. We can help you further in The Food Group.
Thanks for the information and I will be sure to join the food group.
Bella has been doing much better on the Ground turkey and rice and will continue to feed her that until I make a decision on a new dog food.
Karen, Do you have any suggestions since there are so many different ones on the food group page.
If you want to start a discussion in The Food Group, we can do an analysis of the current food...I need to know which formula, as well as whatever treats she's getting.
Ok I will start a discussion in The Food Group. She was on Nutrish Chicken and Veggie recently. Treats have never seemed to be a problem and lately I have just been giving her plain low fat yogurt.

Oh my! We had a problem with our two dogs a couple of weeks ago. We feed good food, on our food list, and still, they
got sick. The manufacturer of the food we had suggested that the bag may have been in the warehouse too long or
possibly had a pin hole leak in it that left it in a not fresh condition. It definitely was not on their recall list.
When we replaced the kibble about a month later, not having given our dogs any manufactured food during that time, all home made, chicken, rice and pumpkin.....the salesperson mentioned another customer that had purchased a kibble that
actually had been found to have mites in it from the manufacturer!
I am no longer comfortable purchasing any dog food, but have given our usual brand another chance, though from another
store, not the same one as before, and so far they both seem fine.
