The other night I was washing blueberries when Vern and Fudge came around to see if something good was happening.  I never feed them from the table, but I took two blueberries and gave them each one.  Now, when I say I gave them each one, I mean Vern stood and looked at me like, “what am I supposed to do with this blue thing?”  Fudge took it gingerly in her mouth and decided to take her newfound treat to the dining room just in case Vern was hot on her tail.  Vern was still back in the kitchen deciding whether or not I was trying to poison him or if this was April Fools Day!  Once he saw that Fudge was interested in her blueberry, he decided to give it a shot and took the blueberry from me as if I had just handed him a loaded gun. He promptly ran into the dining room and spit it on the floor. From there, both dogs decided a better place to eat a blueberry would be in the sunroom and picked their bounty up and ran out the door only to spit it on the carpet out there.  I was envisioning having to get the carpet cleaned by the time each of them downed one stinking blueberry.

Fudge finally ate her new treat, but Vern decided there were some things he absolutely refused to swallow and lo and behold, it was a blueberry.  Who knew the dog that eats mud, grass, goose poop, and Kleenex had a discerning palate?  I guess he had to draw the line somewhere.  Luckily, Fudge decided one blueberry was not enough and was more than happy to eat Vern’s.  Fudge has the body of someone who loves fruits and vegetables.  Vern’s body is more of a meat and cheese kind of shape.  I think Vern takes after me, because I like my blueberries with a little sugar on them or with ice cream or even surrounded by a muffin.  Unfortunately for Vern, I have to draw the line somewhere, too.

Is there some food or treat that your dog surprisingly will not eat?

LOL...Gail, Maybe a little of both :) Actually, sometimes it is the simplest things that make us happy with our dogs!

JD, AKA the Ultimate Carnivore, will not eat blueberries or any other kind of fruit. Or carrots, or most other kinds of vegetables. He not only spits them out, he then rolls on them. We all know what kinds of things dogs roll on.

However, he has always loved lima beans, and I recently discovered that he loves canned green beans too, at least when they are warm and mixed into his food. JD's body type is also of the "meat and cheese" variety. I guess it's true that you are what you eat. :-)

Does JD know he is dealing with the Genius of the Food Group? He should respect your opinion and eat what you give him :) LOL  Just kidding. JD can do what he wants!! I guess dogs have preferences just like we do. Yes, you can look at me and tell I am what I eat :)

JD might like garbanzo beans too--that was a surprise--Trav thinks they're great!  I love how JD rolls on the things he doesn't like!  Still haven't quite gotten over his rolling on the salmon...lol

My two love blueberries and really any fruit I give them. The one thing that comes to mind that I'm surprised they won't eat are raw carrots. I've read where others give them as treats. Mine look at the carrots and then back at me as if I'm supposed to explain my actions.

LOL!

LOL...mine take the carrots out into the yard and I find little gnawed pieces out there. Maybe they think it is an orange antler or something.

I don't think Quincy swallows any of the carrot, either.  Just gnaws at it and leaves most of it for me to clean up.  I am going to try some fruits. I have only ever given banana.

Lol I thought your story would end with a blue sunroom! Whew!
Zoe and Ben both love fruits and veggies. Ben gobbles anything up right away unless its soft in texture then he will carry it around delicately until he realizes its ok to eat. Zoe is more picky ... She won't eat pieces of lettuce or cucumbers. I suppose they really don't have a lot of flavor.

Joanna, Maybe Zoe wants you to toss the lettuce and cucumber together and add a little salad dressing :) LOL I think it is the texture that gets to Vern, but that doesn't explain the gross things he eats. Way to go, Zoe and Bender!

a little salad dressing consisting of butter and some steak I think!

Only Niña eats everything without hesitation! She inhales her food so she has one of the bowls that slows her down. The other 3 prima donnas will eat veggies only if they are cooked. I created 3 monsters!!
