I've never had to board a pet before. But this time all of my dog sitters are going on vacation together!

The place we found is highly recommended by friends and the breeder. And it's also a doggy daycare and the boarded dogs get to play all day. And there are webcams so I can watch her while I'm out of town!

But won't Sky think I'm abandoning her? I'm a little sad about it.

Have you asked anyone on DK if they are available?   Many members have on their profile page that they are willing to dog sit.

You are about 3 hours from me.  If you are passing through my area, drop her off if you think she would be more comfortable.

I'm in Ohio and your Michigan group has a lot of members also.   Ask in there if someone would like a playmate for a week. Many of us dont want more dogs but we do love dates for our doodles.

About Abandoning... I have no idea. My  hopes are that she has such a great time, she doesn't have too much time to think about it after a hard day of play and the wonderful company of other dogs.

I would try dogvacay.com or rover.com. I used dogvacay when I had to board Ragley due to a similar situation and I was thrilled with the service.

Enzo has been boarded a handful of times. It is part of our Vet and daycare. Enzo appears to have a blast! As soon as we drive up into their parking lot, she recognizes where she is and is most anxious to go in! DH and always say we're not sure we should be happy or sad to see how anxious she is to leave us! :p

Reminds me of when we used to take my son to his sitter's.  He would always be happy to see where he was going, but the thing that got me was when he cried when I came to pick him up.  He loved being with the other kids.

LOL...I guess, the good news for us, we always get an enthusiastic greeting when we come home. It also helps that the staff always posts pictures of her on FB for me.

A week is a long time, but she will probably not miss you as much as you miss her.  You might find someone near you who will take her in and maybe even exchange some days.  I dog sit for a couple of people I met on DoodleKisses.  It just seems logical to me to have another doodle around.

Just got back from a week away from my doodles and it was a VERY long time for mom and dad. Not sure about them tho. The reunion was joyous though
I would be much more at ease having access to the doggie cam to be able to see, so that will give you some peace of mind. As for her knowing you will come back for her, if you find the answer to that one, let us all know?
We just left our two with a friend last week, who is the owner of our Murphy's brother and they have known her dogs their whole lives. However, even though I knew they would be happy and well cared for, sleeping in their bed with them at night and in very familiar surroundings, I still felt bad saying bye. As I was leaving they just headed towards the door with me like every other time we've visited and it was heartbreaking to have to take them outside and scurry back to the car. I couldn't help but wonder what they were thinking and if they would miss us or their home. May be crazy, but they have such human looks on their faces sometimes, it makes you wonder.

We use a facility that sounds just like this.  Our guys go there once a week for Daycare so they're very familiar with it and know the staff....that seems to make boarding easier.  Maybe you could send Sky to Daycare there a couple of times so she knows you are going to come back for her.

That sounds like a great idea!
