After Rosco passed I noticed Boca wasn't drinking much in the house, only from a water bucket we keep outside. I tried refreshing the water, still nothing. I stuck the bowl in the dishwasher and then refilled it. Still nothing but a brief sip and then ignoring it.
I used a different bowl thinking maybe there was some weird aversion to Rosco's favorite water dish. Still no change.
I changed from a metal bowl to a ceramic bowl. Initially she drank. But then ignored it again. In the meantime, the world has frozen over so she can't drink outside except for eating snow.
Bought a plastic bowl just for her and again initially she drank. Then ignored it. I literally have to fill it in front of her and point it out to her.
In the meantime I think she's staying alive by eating snow.
This is a dog that has drank from the toilet in the past when we've failed to notice the water bowl was empty. And now it seems she can't be bothered to drink from a bowl if the water has sat for more than 5 minutes.
Any clues what's going on?

I could write the advertising for this.
"Wouldn't your dog love to have his very own indoor water park? Picture the fun he'll have splashing and sliding across your floors!"
LOL
Ugh, if Riley isn't really thirsty but she's bored she takes her giant furry paw and sticks it in her bowl. It's basically like a 4" mop has been dipped in a bucket and someone's just spreading it all over the kitchen...
Hahahaha
Don't laugh, but I saw this before and almost ordered it!! lol
Perfect. This is adorable and perfect for water snobs everywhere.
That's awesome!
I had something similar for my 23yr old cat years ago. For years she jumped up on the powder room sink counter and drank water I'd left trickling for her from the faucet. When she got too old and rickety to jump to the counter I found a water fountain for her. That did the trick! No jumping required!
You should try to bring the outside bucket inside for her?????
That is odd, but doodles seem really quirky anyway you look at it. Both Lucy and Oscar DEMAND fresh water every day. They each have their own water dishes, side by side, and will walk by and give their bowl a quick sniff to determine if the water is fresh that day. If not, they walk on by. If I notice them doing that it reminds me to change the water, and they'll go immediately to drink once the fresh water is down. Who knows why?
Charlie dances in any water bowl that isn't closed in on top. Apparently, Gordie glanced down from heaven and taught him this so that I would need to continue to use a travel water bowl. The one we use is one you recommended years and years ago (I'm not sure they are even in business any longer). It is way too hard to open up and clean every day. If my guys wanted to be water snobs they would just be out of luck.
We have two bowls of water set out for our dogs. They both will only drink from the one on the right. They are identical. I can't figure this out either :) Fudge won't drink if Vern slops it up, which is the only way Vern drinks. Maybe keep a bottle of water in the refrigerator and refill her dish with the cold water. Don't you know by now we are just working for these dogs? LOL
