Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I thank you all for helping me with my questions lately.  We will probably choose our pup in the next week or two and we will get to choose between a boy or a girl.  I honestly have no preference so figured I'd go by what the breeder says and their look (right now they all look identical)   So, I am just curious as to what many of you have to say about the boy versus girl for a first family dog.  I read some people say the girls are laid back and lots say that there really is no difference.

Thanks!

This is interesting as we just adopted a male three weeks ago.  We were actually considering another female but the

lady at the rescue said to get a male as they were cuddlier and females were more aloof and independent.  As we already

have a female there was also the concern of territoriality.  Our decision was the right one for our family.  I was hesitant about a male as we had one many years ago and even though he was housebroken, every now and then he would forget his

manners and lift his leg on the furniture.  Needless to say, we are hoping that will not happen with our new pup.

I have one of each. Murphy is very different from Bella. Read my blog post " Vet puts new spin on Potty Mouth Bella". Tells the differences in both and be warned.....poop eating is much more common in females than males, (per my Vet and several books i've read).
Let me add though, they are both spectacular and I would not be able to choose between them if you asked me which one was a preference.  I only wanted a certain personality and my breeder found just what I asked for with each.
I perfer female dogs but that is my preference. My husband didin't care but we waited until we met the dog.
We like to kiss Gracie Doodle's tummy so we didn't want "that thing"!  We had a male Lab before and it was very embarrassing all the time.  He was black and so pink really showed up and kids would always ask their parents what it was.  I swore I would never have a male again!!!  Also, I prefer squatting to leg lifting!  Don't know about the personalities.  I just know that Gracie is very laid back, sweet, smart, gentle, loving, silly and a very good girl!!
Just to chime in, Luca who was neutered before he arrived here, has never lifted his leg. Also his remaining "part" is very unobtrusive. He has a delicious tummy too.
