Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Bridget is an unbelievably beautiful, sweet Goldendoodle girl who's former owner was ready to have euthanized!...Why?...... because as her former owner explained to us "Bridget is growling and biting my children"...
In reality this playful pup was merely mouthing her children on their arms when greeting...NOT biting...Certainly no reason to have her euthanized!...

We finally managed to convince this woman to put Bridget on a plane and get her here to the Northeast. Well...BRIDGET HAS ARRIVED!.....Thanks to a collective effort between IDOG and The DRC, Liz Syring, Lynne and myself, we now have Bridget safe and sound in Connecticut....Bridget was flown here from Omaha, Nebraska via Houston Texas on Continental Airlines. One of if not the ONLY commercial air carrier that provides temperature controlled cargo holds for the sole purpose of providing safe transport for companion animals. (make a note)

Thanks to Lynne who really came through for me particularly because day before yesterday the head gasket on my car BLEW!..and I am without a car! Lynne came all the way up from the Jersey Shore (Yes ladies and gentlemen..Lynne actually went "over the Driscoll Bridge!" ) to pick me up and we both went to get Bridget at Newark Airport and bring her to Liz in Connecticut.

When she arrived, this poor baby girl had been in transit since 6:30 AM and was very shy and didn't want to come out of her crate...So we loaded her in the car still inside her crate with the door open and by the time we arrived in CT she was poking her head out of the door, making eye contact and wagging her tail...

We met Liz in Norfolk and by the time we sat down for a cup of java at Starbucks outdoor cafe, she was acting like a normal happy doodle...Still a tad bit shy and sticking close to us all but tail was raised, wagging and we all got a few doodle kisses from her as we sipped our coffee.

Liz now has Bridget at her house and Seamus is showing her the ropes..lol... Liz of course is going to moniter and assess her but so far there is no indication of any behavior that would warrant euthanizing this dog.....We all can't imagine why anyone would want to do such a thing....Bridget is in the IDOG Rescue Program and will be available for adoption soon.

Job well done Ladies of Rescue!..Thank you all for saving this girl's life!

She's adorable! Good work =)
Is there any back ground on her, age, breeder, parents healthcare etc. Poor baby likely misses her babies.
Bridget came from a BYB in the puppy mill capital of the world.....Missouri.....
She is a lovely looking dog and she looks well cared for.Didn't this family get training & advice. Anyway bravo to the rescuers!
F without going into tremendous detail, this woman had absolutely no clue...no matter what we suggested, she was basically unwilling to do it. She just could not get her mind around the fact that Bridget is a puppy and was displaying typical puppy behavior.....There was no breaking of the skin...no bite marks...It really was so obvious that the dog was merely "mouthing" when greeting and in play ...We explained that Bridget was obviously perceiving her children as littermates and equals and was treating them as such and we explained that she needed to be shown her borders and boundaries with consistancy.... The woman actually said at one point that she "could not live with herself knowing that a potentially dangerous dog was possibly going to another family".......We had to basically beg her at that point to let us take her......The situation is really a perfect example of why a first time dog owner with multiple small children should seriously educate themselves and be honest with themselves about their willingness to devote time to an animal before adding a large breed puppy to their families. I commend the doodle breeders who pose these questions to their prospective puppy buyers and who screen accordingly. BTW-Bridget's breeder was unwilling to take her back......
Wow, Bridget is gorgeous! Thank you Jackie, Lynne and Liz for saving her. I wish I could adopt her too!!!! :-)
GREAT WORK!!! You lady's rock!! She is DARLING and one lucky girl to have all of you!!

BTW, North West, Delta and American Airlines also have temperature controlled cargo. Not every plane does, but many do.
Thanks for the info April!...Actually when we were scrambling to get Bridget on a plane because her owner was literally ready to take Bridget to the vet the next day to be euthanized, Liz inquired with several of those carriers including North West and they explained that they do not put animals flown out of Omaha in cargo when the outside temperature is above 72 degrees.....Maybe they have no planes with temp controlled cargo holds that fly out of that area?.....Who knows...I only know that they said they didn't have a flight that could accomodate live animals....

I knew that Continental did...so we went with Continental....they really took excellent care of her...
Great work. She is absolutely beautiful!
Great work! I wish I could adopt her, but alas, I can't. That family obviously has never had a dog before - how could they even consider such a thing as euthanasia???? It boggles the mind.
"how could they even consider such a thing as euthanasia????"

Because of total ignorance. That's what we face everyday in rescue especially in regards to doodles because people think they are "miracle dogs" and run out to buy one without thinking.......People who are totally and completely ignorant about dog behavior, the requirements of responsible dog ownership in general never (mind that they are completely ignorant or misinformed about doodles)....and unethical vets who will do their bidding and euthanize a perfectly healthy, normal young dog for no reason whatsoever......
What a great story. Love the pictures also. I just got goose bumps!!
