Yesterday, I noticed Trevor coughing/hacking after any kind of exertion(playing fetch and barking). Otherwise he acted just fine. It was a dry cough that sometimes led to him dry heaving. He was doing it this morning -so off to the vet we go. He hates the vet's office and is really nervous there - the heavy panting caused him to have a coughing episode at the office. Other than the coughing - the vet sees nothing wrong with him. But "thinks" he may have bronchitis. I had them do blood work - I will find out those results tomorrow. I was sent home with 2 weeks worth of a high dose antibiotic. Well, all afternoon I have been exercising him, much exertion. He has NOT coughed once. Now, I only waited basically a day before I ran him to the vet, I'm thinking I may have overreacted to the cough. I don't want to give him any medicine that is unnecessary and if I start that antibiotic I need to use the whole bottle.
I'm thinking about waiting to see if he has another episode before I start any meds. Does anyone have any opinions on why I should or shouldn't give the meds yet?

I'd wait if there are no more symptoms, until the blood work proved that the antibotics were necessary. Antibx can really upset thier GI system so I'd want to be sure they were worth the side effects.
Personally I would wait for the blood work to come back unless he starts again, then I would start them.
I would think waiting for the lab results,and/or another episode wouldn't hurt since he seems fine.
The blood work was to check to see if he had any other problems such as heartworms, organ function, etc...
All bloodwork came back normal. The little skinker hasnt coughed again since the vets
office. I'm glad he seems ok, but geez I would have rather not spent all the $ on what seems
to be nothing. Oh well, I'd probably do same thing for him again. Now, if it was myself, I'd have to
almost cough up a lung before I'd go to the doc! Oh, the things we do for these DOODS!
a day won't hurt kennel cough is a dry, barky kind of cough, one of my dogs had Bronchitis one time, it went away temporarily and then came back, she was hacking green stuff up so heavy duty antibiotics is what she got and it went away
I meant bloodwork!!! OMD, bloodworm sound awful.
