Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am new to posting, but I have a couple of questions and would like to get others' thoughts. Our Clancy, a 2 year old goldendoodle, has a large bump on top of his head. Several people have made remarks like, "oh, that's a sign that he is really smart," and I am wondering if others have doods with bumps?

Also, around his eyes is really red some days. We have had some issues with ear infections and he has been on medicine for that a couple of times. I thought he was rubbing his ears on the couch, but now I think he may actually be rubbing his eyes? I have seen products advertised for dog's eyes, but don't know if anyone has any experience with putting drops in their dog's eyes? I had enough trouble getting him to let me put drops in his ears, I can only imagine what it would be like to try to put something in his eyes. Any suggestions?

By the way, the vet suggested changing his food because of the ear infections. We were feeding him Eukanube large dog and she suggested the Hill's Prescription Diet (which is REALLY expensive). After reading up on dog allergies and that it rarely is caused by food, we have switched him to Blue and that hasn't seemed to affect him one way or another.

My dogs have bumps. My daughter said she learned in anatomy class that large breed dogs have that bump. I have heard good things about Blue.
Eyes red, ears itchy and infected. Sounds like my husband and daughter when their allergies are blooming! Ask your vet about antihistamines, they can really help and do not have to be given continuously.

So glad you brought up "THE BUMP" one of my doodles has it, the other does not and they are full brothers. Figure that one out!
Just to clarify - this head 'bump' that runs down the center/top of the skull is a Poodle trait, not the Retriever. I had a full blooded Retriever before my 2 Doodles and she didn't have a bump. My friends that have Std. Poodles, though, told me they do have the bumps... I've also been told by other vets that this is a Poodle trait...
I thought it might be a poodle trait because my daughter has had goldens and they never had the bump. Thanks to everyone for the tips on the eyes. I think I will call the vet and ask about antihistamines.
How funny..Daisy has this bumb. I took her to the vet because I thought something was wrong... he said it was the labrador in her.
I ordered Thornit ear powder after hearing several members talk about it. I found it on E Bay, ordered a small size to try. I am waiting for it to arrive. The E mail confirmation said it was sent from Scotland....Not available in USA.
My mums dog has to have anti histamine every day for his eyes and then he's usually fine - its only if she forgets that his eyes get sore, So, if you don;t know what causes it then at least it can be managed until such time that you find the cause.
