I groomed a friend's F1 goldendoodle today--and she had the most unusual color pattern! The owner said that she was a black pup, then got golden in areas later on and the black on her "saddle" turned gray--The bottoms of her ears are black but the tops are red and the tail is black but the underside is tan. She is just 2 years old and so pretty with big black eyelashes!

Her coat type was different too--all the cream colored areas were soft and fluffy and the black areas were coarser--like two different dogs glued together!

Is there a name for this pattern or is it unique? She was a lovely dog--you can see in the second photo that she was so relaxed, she just laid down on the table for last minute photos.

I have no idea, but she has Vern's face :) Great job on the grooming. Fudge's dad had a different coloring, too, but not quite like this sweet dog. She is beautiful.

This is just about the biggest of the doodles I groom--she just barely fit on my little table! But she was so patient and cooperative, it made the job easy. Doodles are the best! (I groom only doodles and one Portuguese Water dog).

Kona is like this when I groom him. I can do it on the floor even and he will stand so still. He's just a dream. I love this dog's coloring. Kona was black as a pup and slowly, for over 3 years, changed to pewter. His muzzle is brown/blond. His skin is blue. His mom was a black poodle, dad was an English GR.

First of all...Great job, Ginny!  I thought "phantom" as I used to think Tori was a TRI-color - that's what her breeder called her, but many have said she is more of a phantom...she is not as colorful as this beauty, but does have, black, gray, off-white going through her ....whatever her 'color name' .... she's cute!

The founder of the Golden Retrievers, who bred 100% of the first 3-5 generations, had an early cross with a now extinct breed of Sand Colored Bloodhound. He kept back-breeding / inbreeding so most Goldens today have that Bloodhound gene. No pictures exist but it seems that like today's bloodhounds it normally had a dark saddle or back, and the other color was more like sand. Sounds similar to what you have here.

My Annie is pretty much all one color, orange (with a few white hairs sprinkled around), but she has that "2 dogs glued together" feature of a mixture of fleece and coarse hair.  On her neck and on the back of her legs is fleece and soft as can be.  But then on her back and face, it's wirey.  She gets pets on her neck alot :)
