St. Paddy's is coming right up and as usual I'll be making corned beef with cabbage, red potoates and carrots.  Yummy if I do say and I'll be having guests as well.  It ocurred to me that now that I know Nicky - my first really Irish friend - that perhaps I should also make an authentic Irish dessert.  I have no clue what that might be.  I'm actually a better baker than I am a cook so this might be fun.  So - I'm asking Nicky to enlighten me on Irish desserts - I'm guessing Baileys Irish Cream doesnt' qualify - lol.  Or any others of you of Irish decent - what is your favorite Irish dessert receipe?

The first time Robson Green, I adore him, said "Watch this space" on a BBS show I said what is he talking about. I love that expression now.

I don't suppose Creme de Menthe over vanilla ice cream counts.

What about Shamrock Shakes? Nicky, do you have McDonald's over there?

Chicago has a huge St. Patrick's Day celebration, maybe because of Mayor Daley (the first). We turn the Chicago River green. When I was in college, a news crew from Ireland was actually filming the festivities here, because it was so over-the-top spectacular.

Oh I would LOVE to be there!

And we would love to have you!

Being from just around the corner of in S.W. Michigan - I have seen the river green and it is awesome!!!  St. Patrick's in Chicago is just crazy!!!!  Wish I were there too!

The more the merrier!

Ours is turned green also, the river that is! (Milwaukee)

This is the brown bread ice cream recipe from Ballymaloe House in Co Cork which has sublime food and a cookery school.

If you wanted to be a little Irish you could make layered Orange and Green Jello and serve with the Ice-Cream.  Just let the orange set before adding the green.

If I come up with anything else I will let you know.

Or do an orange and green Jello parfait with cool white in between the layers! It would look just like an Irish flag.

It would be really pretty, but not lots of Jello fans in my family.  I think those chocolate Guinness cupcakes are the winner for me.

I'm really loving this idea! You could mix crushed pineapple with the green layer, cream cheese with the cool whip layer, and mandarin oranges with the orange layer!

Can you tell I'm a native of the Deep South--where congealed salads are still in fashion? *^_^*

I have made a version of this and it is totally delicious.
