Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I don't know if anyone has ever suggested this before but I'm just wondering since people aren't allowed to advertise puppies or breeders on the main forum, why are members allowed to come on here to advertise their adult doodles? It's particularly irritating when it's a new member who only joined for this purpose and will be gone as soon as they find someone to give their dog to.
I think there should be a group for "owner rehomes" so people looking to dump their dogs can go there to make all their silly excuses and the rest of us don't have to see it and be saddened by it. And people looking to adopt adult doodles can go there and sift through the 'advertisements". All of these posts about rehoming supposedly perfect dogs makes DK a very sad place to come to sometimes. I came here to see pictures of cute doodles to liven up my crazy day at work, and instead I see another completely ridiculous rehoming post that leaves me sad and angry. I'm starting to feel like coming to DK is like gambling with my happiness, one day all is good, the next day, sadness and frustration.
I really don't know how other members, particularly those who have been here a long time, have managed to deal with this for so long, but I'm asking nicely could we please find a way to stop all this rehomeing nonsense on the main forum and let's get DK back to being the happy place it was when I first joined. pretty please? :)

Yes. I agree.
I think so, too.
I wonder this too. It seems to me that most people who join just to post a re home discussion in the forum are already sure they want to re home their dog. They make up more and more excuses as people confront them, because they know they aren't going to keep the dog and nothing people are saying changes their minds. I know a lot of them will get rid of the dog either way. I just worry that when they are met with skepticism and anger here, they will give up and go dump them at a local shelter rather than finding a good home or a non kill shelter.
I know that this may not be true in all cases, but I always end up feeling like the dog would be better of being re homed. A dog that doesn't get let out for hours on end just because it's raining, or is completely ignored and kept in a kennel all day is better off being placed in a different home. I guess I just get sad at the thought that the poor dog will be stuck with someone who is willing to dump their dog at the first sign of trouble.
It's the ones who are given up because of health issues that I really worry about the most. Those are the ones that push my buttons, obviously.
Yeah, I understand. I worry about them too. :-(
:(
and the old ones. :(
This may be controversial but if my dogs were elderly, which by extrapolation means I would be, and I could not find someone, even with financial help, to care for them I would put them down. I would of course be unable to care for them myself if it came to that, obviously. But I could never take them to a shelter. I think a peaceful death is more humane than suffering and I think my dogs would really suffer in a shelter, no matter how good it was. Just thoughts that all this has raised. I know many people will think this is wrong and be upset but this is what I'm thinking.
I do think there are cases where a dog is better off being euthanized than being left at a shelter.
I totally agree.
I know someone who made this decision regarding her cat. The person had to move into a nursing home, and the cat was already really old. She just couldn't stand the thought of not knowing where it would end up or how it would be treated.
You already did an awfully good job of that with Mr. Jake. I hate to think what would have happened to him if you hadn't taken him.
This is a wonderful thing to do.
