Downtown today I spotted this dog:

Take a guess what you think before you read on...

I first spotted it across the street and had a moment to ponder things before the light turned.  My brain went back and forth with guesses but as I got closer I decided on what it was and approached the owner dude asking "Is that a corded poodle?" He said YES and was super impressed so I told him I thought his dog was the wrong color to be one of the other corded breeds and again he was impressed because apparently nobody ever gets it right!.  LOL...what can I say I was really proud of my dog breed nerdiness...or maybe dorkness since nerd assumes I actually KNOW what I'm talking about.  Teeheee =)

What was your first and last impression before reading the answer?

Love the video of the poodles in the photo op. They r gorgeous. Harley has a coat that naturally separates. Wonder if it would do this?
came across this while looking up the coat of a Komondor.  Made me laugh
It took me a minute to figure out just what the heck I was looking at!! OMD!!  I finally found the little nose and figure out it was a DOG! That is funny!
It looks like a holiday cookie my mom used to make, with almond bark and pretzels...

He doesn't look much different than the average doodle here in these pictures.

Just a few days later, I gave his cords a SHORT hair cut after the rain and mud.

Here you can see the difference.

I think Spud looks adorable with his cords! I like the short look! He kind of looks like a little stuffy in that picture with the ball! Too cute!
Thanks Ricki
I LOVE this look on him!
I thought doodle too. I think the face threw me. Our previous groomer had a corded poodle but his face was still very poodley looking. This one has more of a doodle face.  Nice sleuthing Adina!
Was the other dog more poodley looking in the face because it had a shaved face?  I think a lot of the less tightly curled poodles can easily have doodley faces if they are allowed to grow that way.
Yes, the face was shaved so it still retained that part of the poodle look.
It's just the mustache. The corded poodle Adina saw doesn't have her face shaved, she has the "doodle" mustache. If you shave most doodles' faces, you'd think they had poodley faces, too.
