Downtown today I spotted this dog:

Take a guess what you think before you read on...

I first spotted it across the street and had a moment to ponder things before the light turned.  My brain went back and forth with guesses but as I got closer I decided on what it was and approached the owner dude asking "Is that a corded poodle?" He said YES and was super impressed so I told him I thought his dog was the wrong color to be one of the other corded breeds and again he was impressed because apparently nobody ever gets it right!.  LOL...what can I say I was really proud of my dog breed nerdiness...or maybe dorkness since nerd assumes I actually KNOW what I'm talking about.  Teeheee =)

What was your first and last impression before reading the answer?

First impression when I saw the cording was Puli... but then I realized the shape of the face is wrong and though maybe a corded doodle.  Corded poodle makes sense!

I would have never guessed it based on the colour though... I would say you have graduated from dork to nerd ;)

Corded doodle crossed my mind too!  But I just didn't think it was very likely since Joanne's Spud is the only doodle I've ever heard of getting corded.  It just didn't seem like something the average doodle owner would do...plus he was shaved in the midsection which was a more poodley kind of thing to do to a dog.
Oh I think his tail was docked too...BUT it was hard to tell since the hair off of the tail was quite long.
LOL, We all know that Joanne is not your average doodle owner. My first thought was also doodle with a really bad coat.

Good job, Adina! We're very proud of you! That's a really cute dog, too!

(On a side note, walking around downtown, I guess that means Peanut Pearson is not making an appearance this weekend?)

There are still a few hours in this weekend so you never know!  As impatient as I am, I'm kind of hoping he waits till Monday when my OB is back from vacation.  The purpose of my downtown trip was to spend some one-on-one time with Miss Natalie in her probably last weekend as an only child =)  I only lasted a little over an hour, but it was a very nice hour!

With my DD, I think I had the same due date as you, and she was born 4 days early, at 5 a.m. on a Monday morning. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

I'm glad you and Natalie had a good time. I think she is going to LOVE being a big sister!

I agree. She'll love having a brother, in addition to dogs, to boss around and report on. As in "Peanut", I mean ?, you crazy".

Wow--that is amazing--so Rastifarian!

And good luck to you Adina!!

First and last impression?  I thought it was a Poodle from the beginning, but this is honestly one of the worst cording jobs I've ever seen.  That dog is a mess.

Good job on your breed nerdiness, though!

BTW....  Here is a cute corded Mini that showed at our local Specialty last year:

Look out Spud.  Next Spring, this might be you.  I certainly know now, WHY they shave the legs and the hind. IMPOSSIBLE to stay dry.  But since Spud is such a ball lover, well I kind of think he should have those little balls on the side! HA!  Shhh, do not tell him

Maybe Adina's example is of a young cording job.  They say, the first year, many may call the Humane Society on you because how BAD the dogs look at first.  I thought Spud did pretty good for his first time.  No one threatened me, except my vet, who thought it was awful.

Spud never looked bad.  In fact, I thought he looked like a juvenile Komondor.  You did a great job.

Poodles are shaved into Continental trims for a variety of reasons:  keeps the dog cooler, shows off the muscle tone and rear angles,  shows angle of croup, allows for the creation of an uphill outline, and finally... gets rid of half a coat that would otherwise have to be washed, dried and brushed!
