My "Oliver" gets car sick on long trips. He is fine on short trips around town. It's only 2 times now on a 5-7 hour trip. We tried Dramamine and not feeding him. So far neither has helped. The vet thinks he'll grow out of it, since he just turned "1". I would LOVE any helpful suggestions!!!

It can help to have them buckled securely in a harness and facing forward.

Hmmm....ginger, I'll have to give that a try!! Thank You!!

I used to give mine ginger dog cookies from a dog bakery when Kona got car sick as a young pup.

Maggie gets sick on long car trips too.  The only long trip we ever take her on is to the breeder's, which is an hour away.  I just always have remembered to have a container for her to puke in and some paper towels.  Maggie is 2, so I'm not sure about the "growing out of it" theory.  Of course, I am not a vet!  Let us know if the ginger works out.  I might try that.

I did bring paper towels and plastic bags. We were on the road 7 hours on Saturday and 7 hours today and he threw up a total of 3 times. Not too bad for 14 hours total. My Ellie can eat in the car and never throws up, so this is a new experience for me. I'm hoping the vet is right, since it's only on very long trips. The Dramamine made him throw up before we even got in the car!!! I won't be trying that again~ lol

Bender gets car sick too.  Ginger snaps worked a little for us but he still puked after 2 hours.  With dramamine he pukes less often but still pukes.  I used to sit in the back with him and hold a plastic bag for him every time I heard him gagging.  Now I just lay weewee pads on the side he always throws up on and it catches most of it so i can just pull off the pad and throw it out.  It helps him to keep the windows open the whole time (even on the freeway).  I think there is something about the air pressure changing if you open and close it.

Shea and I both get car sick. We sit in the front and have lots of air blowing on us.

One of my dogs got car sick as a pup and did outgrow it.

Do you remember how old he was before he out grew it Nancy? Just curious?

When you go on your longer trips do you stop and get out of the car at all during the trip?  Maybe stopping halfway through and getting out of the car for 30 minutes or so might calm his stomach a bit.

Yes Amy, We do stop a couple of times and that seems to Help!! ;)))

We found opening the window & getting fresh air helps.  Our guy will salivate , a lot, for a few minutes before he vomits -- so we can usually do a time out.

Our guy is mostly fine on long trips.  Short trips -- city driving with starts and stops, parallel parking, etc -- that makes him vomit quickly.
