For those of us who  have dogs suffering from car sickness due to anxiety here is something else to try.

This includes: Eyes to the Horizon Method.  Making the car ride a pleasant experience.  Sitting down in the car.

Starlit gets car sick.  UGH.  We like to go everywhere with the dogs.  Even a 15 minute ride to the park put her into extreme anxiety and eventually she gets sick.

Our neigbors have cured many rescue dobermans with this method.  It is working for us too.    Take frequent small trips.  Each trip for several weeks go somewhere with a reward.  Their method was to go to McDonald's Drive Thru and get a plain cheeseburger, minus the bun.  Then head back home.

We don't do McDonald's but I have placed the bag of her favorite cookies on the dash board.  Her focus remains straight forward since she can't keep  her eyes off the bag of treats.  "The Eyes To The Horizon Method for Car Sickness"

Since our van is large Starlit tends to roam around and gets sea legs.   We use treats to have  her sit and stay in her seat.  Then place the bag back on the dashboard.

Keep the trips short, sweet, and full of treats.

Good Luck to all of us    :)

Wouldn't your vet prescribe without an office visit for something like this?
Wish I could help but not allowed to prescribe for dogs.
Since this "anxiety" thing is new to us, currently we use no medication.... only because I just have no idea about meds except rescue remedy.

She is high anxiety about everything so I am certain we will be learning about meds real soon.
Adrianne made a good point about Prozac and that might be very helpful. It does usually take longer to be effective in people.
Yes she did. Who wants to live with high anxiety? If she can calm down enough to learn and be comfortable I am sure this would be a GREAT THING.

I have already added this to the list for next week :)
You see the vet next week?
Yes. We have a room named after us at his office.
LOL. Cheaper than naming a stadium, I think. Soon it will get better.
It is getting A LOT better. She had KC so we held off on shots for a few weeks. Needs the last set and a spay job would be great also :) Hate to head to NJ and she goes into heat. Egh!
Doesn't NJ have a rule or something that all out of town doodles not to be in heat???
No it's OK to be in NJ in heat as long as you don't sneak off with intact Romeos. To be safe maybe she needs a chastity belt. Wouldn't be surprised if someone sell a version.
I am going to try this. Darwin does well in the car, but he has gotten sick once before... and he usually hesitates as though he doesn't want to get in, initially. Perhaps it is because it makes him feel sick?
