You have to call from the number you're deleting from the list. But good reminder, I think I'll redo my landlines since I have no idea when i last did that and they expire after 5 years.

Yes, but apparently this does not stop the calls so using the registry is suggested. It's not clear, after doing some research that the numbers are going to be released but the telemarketers do use "bots" to make calls. Here is a more recent article:

I checked Snopes for this and came up with the same conclusion. It's a false rumor.

Yup, I gather the dates are not real but I still think calling the registry is a good idea--see above. I am sorry that the email I posted was not true.

Thanks for posting the phone number though! I didn't even know you could call to get your number taken off. I think I'm going to call from my parent's home phone line... they get so many telemarketing calls, it's ridiculous!
