This is in regards to the slippery pads post about Faye.  I was wondering if anyone can tell me if maybe her pads seem to be so slippery on the tile floor because we wipe her paws each time she comes in from the park.  We take her twice a day to the park to potty and then run around. She walks in the dirt where all the dogs potty so upon entering the house we use baby wipes (non alcohol)  to clean her pads.  The wipes are filthy when done, so it is necessary especially since my grandkids play on the floor.  We do have a well check in two weeks at the vet maybe I can ask his advise as well.

I am wondering if this is just a puppy problem. I think once her pads get tougher as she grows older they will not be slippery anymore. My six year old has pads like sandpaper from years of wear and tear and walking on the sidewalk etc.
I think this is just a puppy thing, Loki who is now a little over a year and a half has finally started to get good traction on then floor where as Moose, 8months, is slipping and sliding everywhere. Loki did the same as a little puppy. I think with time their paws rough up a bit. I don't think it's the wipes because I wipe my guys paws down very frequently and I haven't noticed it make either of them slip any more or less. You could check or have a groomer check that the fur between the paw pads isn't so long that it's covering her pads. I have to trim that fur frequently for my boys because that can be very slippery.

Thank  you so much.  I took a look at her back paws and you were right the fur is growing pretty long.  I am going to trim it today to see if that helps.  Appreciate the advice.

Yeah no problem! I usually trim the fur once a month and every so often I have to really closely check and make sure it's not matted between the pads because if the mat is big it can be painful for them.

I think its the hair that grows around there pads that make them so slippery. Carly has more traction after a groom and as her hair grow, her traction fades.
