Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'd finally had enough this morning.  My next door neighbor has an Italian mastiff and a variety of other large dogs visit there, or maybe live there.  I'm not even sure how many PEOPLE live in that house!  Anyhow, their dog or dogs are just let out the front door to take care of business wherever they want, which appears to be mostly in my yard.  After I'd used a leaf blower this morning to pile up leaves from the front yard, I couldn't believe how many huge piles of dog poo were out there!  Trav has his fenced spot in the back and is only on leash in the front, so I knew none of it was his.  I bagged it all up, a gross task, though it appears the dog(s) do have a decent diet.  Heh, heh--can't help but make that assessment.  I've also run the mower through some of those piles--another yuk experience.  So this morning I knocked on their door, apparently woke the girl up, and politely asked if they could direct their dog(s) to their own yard when it was time to take care of business.  Such surprise and amazement!  They had no idea their dog(s) were messing in my yard.  Uhhhhh....right.  Anyhow, I've been assured that they'll watch the dogs in the future.

And that's my rant for the morning.

Ricki, I love your disclaimers. Do you see the "family member" who tried this once when you look in the mirror? LOL
We're a very close family! That's all I have to say about that! :)
My neighbor has a very large dog which has very large poop.  One day I was mowing the yard and wanted to kick the poop back to their side. (I had on old tennis shoes only used for mowing, that never go in the house.)  I kicked the poop about a foot so it landed in HIS yard and threw my back out.  Four days in bed and many trips to the chiropractor . . . .urgh!  It is so annoying when people just let their dogs go wherever!  At least you have the guts to tell them. . . .I don't.
Doris--I thought you were going to say the poop stuck to your shoe--but throwing your back out was really adding injury to insult!  I think if there had only been one pile I would have cleaned it up and just fumed again, but there was a LOT of poop--five or six piles, and I'd already stepped in one of them.  Grrrrrrr....
Oh Doris!!! That is adding insult to injury! Or is it injury to insult!!  That's the worst!
Ricki--I didn't see your 'insult to injury' or 'injury to insult' before I posted those same words!  Guess great minds think alike, at least about dog poop.  :)
LOL! Yes, great minds...
Neighbors - oh yes....we have a neighbor with 3 roaming beagles.  They have a habit of depositing just off our front steps...and other areas of our yard.  We've tried talking to these people....letting them know we don't want their dogs on our property and especially not doing their business here....all to no avail.   After a decade of this we finally sent them a letter stating our concerns (there is a leash law in our town....I don't think they even own leashes) and letting them know that from now on when we see one or all of their dogs in our yard we will notify the local police.    A copy of our letter was sent to the police as well.    It's been almost 2 weeks and so far so good.  We live in a rural area....and walk our dog to do his business...always in a wooded area where no one walks or passes through.  It seems to easy to do the right thing.
Carol--oh, boy.  Three dogs doing their business in your yard???  It's a shame you have to resort to such tactics to get people to take care of their own pets.  I hope your beagle mess problems are over with now.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.  I'd love to have a wooded area close by where I could walk Trav, but we're city dwellers and would have to drive to find some woods.
i had a neighbor that was a local school teacher.  He walked his dog down the cul-de-sac very early every morning. He allowed his dog to do his business in the next door neighbors yard, every day.  Well living in a small town my neighbor was hesitant to make waves.  So instead he collected every dog poop for some time....... One day he had enough and simply walked over to  his next door neighbor. He threw all of the collected dog poop into his yard.  It was the last time mister teacher neighbor allowed his dog to poop in the neighbors yard.  :)

Sharon--great story!  I considered doing something along these lines, but I wasn't sure they'd know where the stuff came from.  Sigh.  Maybe I should have snuck over and turned the squirrel lose in their house.  That would have created some chaos, though it probably wouldn't have solved my problem.  (I just caught a squirrel in a trap in the attic.  I'd set the trap months ago--it's a catch-and-release trap and the squirrel was really making a racket up there in that wire cage.  I just turned it loose, not feeling like driving it to a new home.)

Now that would certainly gotten everyone's attention, but I guess they would not have known it was retribution for their horrible manners. This is a pretty funny forum. Neighbor Dog Poop Issues. Usually the poop discussions on DK are about our own dogs doo doo. :o)
