This how Toby looked when he got up this morning. Immediately called the vet this morning, we have an appointment at 1:30pm. He was treated for Uveitus in April of 2015, also for the cloudy eyes. No discharge from the eyes. (It was also mentioned to us at that time that a tumor behind the eyes could cause this, although meds treated the eyes successfully and they didn't feel we needed further testing at that time). Something comes to mind.... when this happened in April, 2015, Toby had been at grooming the week before. We had let our groomer know about his eyes, and she said there was nothing she would have used that could have caused this. She has been grooming him for years, is good with him, we always stay and wait for him, never leave him because he is always at risk for seizures, and not many groomers will accept him. Toby was just groomed last Wednesday. Just a thought. Has anyone had this happen, would there be any possibility that his eyes are super sensitive to something she may be using during the bath? He has so many issues and is so sensitive to everything. Have any of you seen this before, and any thoughts on this? Asking for prayers for Toby today.
UPDATE: Eyes are clearing up, left eye still pretty cloudy, right eye has made big improvement, still have a ways to go, but I am so happy he is improving. As of last night he was able to follow us and see his ball, that's a very good thing! I do have a call into the vet, he is now vomiting everything up. His stomach was quite unsettled last night, had to get up a couple times through the night to go out, which is very unusual for him. He has very loose stools now. He is also refusing to eat, his meds require him to eat, he has even vomited up seizure meds from this morning...we have tried small pieces of burger, chicken, watermelon, canned dog food, even tried wrapping his phenobarb in a small piece of cheese, no luck! Vet told we could give him Pepcid Ac if he got an upset stomach, we have been giving 10 mg tablet twice a day since he started on the meds. Thank goodness we have a SpotBot!

So happy that the vet was able to take Toby in the same day! I know how scary it is when a pet is sick...you feel so helpless. Thoughts are with you both and hoping that he recovers quickly!!
I am glad you started treatment so soon. I feel for you and Toby. the ophthalmologist is a great plan. Hoping for a speedy and complete recovery.
Thank you!
You probably already found the ACVO website, but just in case: http://member.acvo.org/search_results
Thank you, Through this link I was able to find one in Ann Arbor, I will call them. Our vet did not make a specific referral, but he did say he thought the Columbus, Ohio or Michigan State (Lansing, MI area) would be good choices to try. There really aren't any in the NW Ohio area, so I will call around and see what I can find out.
Poor Toby. I hope his eyes are better quickly. It's so hard when they're sick or hurting and all you want to do is make them better.
Thanks! It is so difficult to see him like this. He has walked into walls a few times tonight, when we hold a piece of treat out for him, he really has to work his nose to find it. So it is obvious he can not see tonight. Just got last dose of eye drops in for today, I really hope we see some improvement tomorrow..
I hope he improves very quickly too! I had a blind rescue/permanent foster for about 7 months before he passed a long time ago. And it was hard. He had glaucoma. I didn't know he was blind when I picked him up and I was totally unprepared. I'm sure you won't need it for Toby, but there is a group on yahoo for blind dogs and they were really helpful for me. I remember that walking into the walls. It broke my heart. I hope Toby is so improved after a good nights sleep!
Oh, one little "don't do this because I already did it." The opthamologist told me to make sure I washed my hands after putting in the atropine drops so I didn't end up with it in my eye. I thought, yeah, yeah I won't do that. Next thing you know I look in the mirror and I have one dilated pupil and the worst headache ever. I couldn't figure out why I was dying - until it dawned on me that I had just gotten Darby's atropine drops in my eye like they warned me about. I followed the instructions after that.
The vet did tell us that once Toby's pupils are visible, and if dilated, do not put the drops in. I do wash my hands before and after giving his meds. Aww, so glad you figured out it was the atropine, that had to be scary wondering why all of a sudden your eye was dilated....
I'm sorry he's not better this morning. Hopefully soon!
There was a moment. I always try to take a deep breath and not panic. I was pretty sure I wasn't having a stroke. And I didn't have a closed head injury. What could it... oh, the eye drops.
I was reading that your old vet never made same day appointments. That baffles me. Are you supposed to take them to the emergency vet every time they're sick, because they're sick today and not tomorrow? I understand scheduling routine things, but I feel like they should have appointments available for urgent issues. That seems so crazy to me!
You know, it is strange, but they would do this quite often. If Toby needed to be seen right away, we could come in and wait until they could fit us in...for an extra $35 charge, or go to the Animal Emergency Clinic. We switched to our new vet, which is an hour away, but we absolutely love the care he gets there. He is such a big baby there, loves the attention and gentle care he gets there. They are open 24/7, vet techs are there 24/7. And on weekends Dr on call is called in as needed. Yes, Toby has taken advantage of that, and we have had to go in on a Friday night, and once on a Sunday. No "emergency" charges, because they are our regular vet so we can go anytime and it gets billed as a regular office visit. Toby is very familiar with the staff there and really likes them, so it sure makes it easier to take him there. With Toby, I need to be able to get him in whenever needed, just like his eyes, I never like to postone treatment because there are "no appointments available".
I am so happy it wasn't anything serious for you. It would be scary, but at least you know now to not get Atropine in your eyes..
