This how Toby looked when he got up this morning. Immediately called the vet this morning, we have an appointment at 1:30pm. He was treated for Uveitus in April of 2015, also for the cloudy eyes. No discharge from the eyes. (It was also mentioned to us at that time that a tumor behind the eyes could cause this, although meds treated the eyes successfully and they didn't feel we needed further testing at that time). Something comes to mind.... when this happened in April, 2015, Toby had been at grooming the week before. We had let our groomer know about his eyes, and she said there was nothing she would have used that could have caused this. She has been grooming him for years, is good with him, we always stay and wait for him, never leave him because he is always at risk for seizures, and not many groomers will accept him. Toby was just groomed last Wednesday. Just a thought. Has anyone had this happen, would there be any possibility that his eyes are super sensitive to something she may be using during the bath? He has so many issues and is so sensitive to everything. Have any of you seen this before, and any thoughts on this? Asking for prayers for Toby today.
UPDATE: Eyes are clearing up, left eye still pretty cloudy, right eye has made big improvement, still have a ways to go, but I am so happy he is improving. As of last night he was able to follow us and see his ball, that's a very good thing! I do have a call into the vet, he is now vomiting everything up. His stomach was quite unsettled last night, had to get up a couple times through the night to go out, which is very unusual for him. He has very loose stools now. He is also refusing to eat, his meds require him to eat, he has even vomited up seizure meds from this morning...we have tried small pieces of burger, chicken, watermelon, canned dog food, even tried wrapping his phenobarb in a small piece of cheese, no luck! Vet told we could give him Pepcid Ac if he got an upset stomach, we have been giving 10 mg tablet twice a day since he started on the meds. Thank goodness we have a SpotBot!

UPDATE: Toby did start drinking water on his own this afternoon. Still not eating, but at least drinking. Dr did not feel the need to admit him for IV since he was drinking. He did not get any meds all day because of the vomiting. Only got the Ofloxacin drops in his eyes. Dr said to hold all other meds, except for Ofloxacin drops. By this evening, he wanted quite a bit of water. We only gave small portions at a time, he kept going over and licking the bowl wanting more. He did eat a tiny bit tonight, but that's OK because we need to start slow. We have another appointment at 11:40 tomorrow. He did have 2 seizures this afternoon. Dr said to discontinue the Rimadyl. And depending on the re-evaluation tomorrow, we may restart the Minocycline. Although that is the one he needs to take with food, or after a meal, so until he starts eating better I don't think he will be getting that. We will discuss alternatives tomorrow, hopefully something with less side effects.
I'm glad that Toby is better, and I'm sure you feel better too, now that you have some direction and a plan. I hope hope things continue to improve.
Thanks, I do hope after having a break from the meds today and removing the Rimadyl his tummy will settle down and he will start eating again. The Dr felt pretty confident about that. We will see how it goes in the morning.
I'm so glad you explained that you make the chicken broth yourself, Haley, because almost all commercial broths (including organic varieties) include onions, which are toxic to dogs.
We have never given Toby chicken broth, sodium content is high, and it has onions like Karen said. With Toby being on Potassium Bromide for seizures we have to be very careful feeding anything with sodium content. We have given him bites of boiled chicken before when he was sick. I am also glad you boil the chicken to make the broth, much safer and healthier than buying the canned broth. The frozen chicken broth cubes is also a good idea. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.
Toby is still not feeling well. Seems quite thirsty, drinking a lot of water, but still struggling with eating. He did well through the night. This morning I ended up giving a small portion of rice and scrambled eggs again, that's all he will eat. Once he ate it, I gave a bit more but mixed a few pieces of his kibble in to it. He ate the rice and egg but spit the kibble out. At least it's something. We have another vet appointment at 11:40 today. I am hoping they will do some blood work now. My husband took the day off work to go with me just in case he has another seizure in the car. We are going to stop at the store on the way back and pick up chicken breasts to boil and some sweet potatos to steam. Probably will pick up the frozen fruit bars as Karen suggested.
I'm so sorry he's still not feeling well. Glad though that he did at least the rice & eggs. Please update when you have a chance.
PS: Toby has two great parents. What a nice DH you have!
I'm curious if maybe Toby could have Zofran for nausea. I have heard of dogs taking zofran before, I know he's more complicated because of his seizure history. But the poor guy just sounds so miserable. I hope for good things at your vet appointment!
Thank you. He has been miserable, but I think we are finally making progress. The Dr did say that the cerenium injection would be the best choice for him today. But I do appreciate any suggestions. I will ask our vet about this when we go back next week.
Toby's vet visit went well today. Dr was quite pleased with how his eyes looked today. He still squints when outside, but I know it will take time. He was given an injection of cerenium for the nausea. We will discontinue the Rimadyl, only Ofloxacin drops today, then tomorrow restart Atropine, only if eyes are not dilated, and restart the Minocycline tomorrow morning, giving him a rest again today to give his tummy more time to settle. We stopped at the grocery store on the way home, picked up skinless chicken breasts and sweet potatoes. Steamed the sweet potatoes and boiled the chicken. Added a pinch of shredded chicken and a small amount of sweet potato to about 1/4 cup of his kibble. He ate it all! I will feed another small portion this evening, then gradually start adding more kibble tomorrow. He does have more energy tonight than he has had the last couple days. We have another follow up appointment next Thursday, just to re-check eyes again and progress. For now, it was decided we will hold off on an appointment with the opthamologist so we can get Toby's tummy issues and seizures back under control. Hopefully the tummy will settle even after restarting the Minocycline. The Dr feels the Rimadyl was most likely causing the tummy issues, but we will see. Thank you all for your good wishes, prayers and suggestions!
