So.. Luna was playing in the park, running and not looking where she was going. She hit the side of her head (going pretty much full speed) on a metal post.
So far she seems ok (wants to play, responding to commands), but she was definitely looking a little dazed for about 30 seconds. I took her straight home and now I'm keeping a close eye on her.
Anyone know other symptoms I should watch for? The vet doesn't open up for a couple hours in case I want to call them
I was thinking
- Excessive drooling
- Lethargy
- Confusion
- Weird walking
- Vomiting
Hopefully she's ok, but I'm confining her to the same room as me for now so I can keep an eye on her!

Good news indeed, these doodles give us a fright from time to time that's for sure.
Let me know what you said as Quincy needs the same scolding! He scares me when he is in full run mode at the dog park since he invariably has his head turned to see who is chasing with him. I fear it is just a matter of time before he takes out a bench or chair.
So glad Luna is fine.
That's exactly what happened to her!
She turned around to see how close her buddy was (also named Luna, and coincidentally her half-sister) and BAM.
I told her "look where your'e going when you're running!"... her response was to stare at me while walking, so of course not looking where she was going.
Happy to hear this!! :)
Glad she is okay. A few poles have jumped out in front of Gavin before. Soo much to attend to, who has time to look for poles!
Dear Luna,
I am sorry you hit your head when you were playing at the park. I hope it feels better soon.
I don't think you are clumsy at all. It could happen to anyone, especially when you are at a park where there are lots of things that need your attention. I myself have run into the French doors right here in my own living room several times when I was chasing my stuffed ball, but I don't think that makes me clumsy. Just focused.
Your friend,
JD
Dear JD,
French doors are tricky because they have those little windows. My mom had to install a little magnetic butterfly on the screen door so I wouldn't run straight through it. I also run into walls and fall over on my bum trying to catch balls in mid-air all the time.
Stay safe fetching!

Poor Luna! Darn those stinking poles! In addition to what you said you were watching for, I was going to mention the pupils, but see that Karen did mention that.
I just want to add that I have had 2 head concussions, both pretty bad ones where I was hospitalized for days each time. Both times it was from twirling baton when I was younger. Finally, my dad told me I had to either quit or wear a football helmet while twirling...So, keep in mind that this information is coming from a MAJOR klutz who has been there and done that.
Anyway - Both times when I got a concussion, it hurt, I sat out of practice for a while, and then went right back to it. I acted normal the entire evening. I went to bed seemingly just fine. Both times it wasn't apparent until the next morning when my mom tried to wake me up that I COULDN'T get up. I had to be carried to the hospital. I was so dizzy it was like I was drunk. Then, I started vomiting multiple times. Anyway, my point with all of this is don't assume she is fine until at least the next day. She probably is, but you never know.
Thanks for the story... that sounds awful!
It's been almost 12 hours now and no change, she's her usual playful and energetic self. Hopefully it stays that way!
I am glad he is okay. I have to admit, this gave me a chuckle, because I can just imagine Peri doing the same thing and picturing a doodle running full speed then smacking into a pole is somewhat funny. I am terrible!!!!!!!! Sorry for saying that outloud!
It was kind of funny until I realized she was stumbling around... poor baby, bad mommy :p
