Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi all -
Hoping to get your advice. So we found a mini goldendoodle F1 that we think we are adopting but wanted to get your thoughts on the coat. I am looking for a coat that is silky and soft, more on a similar to the golden retriever and not as much of thicker poodle coat - based on the picture can anyone help me figure out which coat this little baby has?
Also she is currently 7.5 weeks and already weights 8 pounds - wondering if you all think she is going to be much bigger than 35 pounds?
thank you again all in advance,
Linda

At 8 weeks, my Cooper was 6.5 lbs, at 18 months, he is 29 lbs. He is a mini Goldendoodle and looked a lot like her in her picture at that age if you want to look at his pictures now. He does have a wavy coat when it is longer, but I wouldn't say it is very thick. His coat was very soft as a puppy and still is right after a bath or brushing. I hope you can see what his coat looks like now and then from the photos I have attached.
There are never any guarantees with the coats. I understand that you are just trying to get as close to what you want beforehand. She is so adorable that I am sure you will fall in love with her no matter how her coat turns out if you decide to bring her home!
At 9.5 wks, Charli was 8.2 lbs. She is from a puppy mill so I am not 100% sure she was 9.5 weeks old, I think she may have been a bit younger. She had already been spayed when she came home and that might have a lot to do with her height - she is almost 28" tall and weighs about 45 lbs. She has a curly, soft coat. I was told that her Mom came from 2 doodles and her Dad was a poodle.
This is the picture I saw on her PetFinder page
This is Samantha. She is also from a puppy mill so I don't know who her parents are but she is an F1 that does not shed a hair! At 11 weeks she was 27 lbs. As an adult she is 25" tall and app 70 lbs. Her coat is very silky on her belly, wavy and a bit wirey on her back and her head has curls and is soft.
This is not an attractive picture but I wanted you to see her coat. Now that I really look at her puppy picture, her coat really hasn't changed. The swirls on her body are still there now as adult. I have a million pictures of Samantha on my page if you would like to see how much she has changed.
With an F1 (and really all doodles), you really won't know what their coat, how tall or how much they will weigh until they are done growing.
I think your little girl will be gorgeous but if you are looking for a doodle that will not shed, an F1 is not the way to go because she will more than likely shed. I got lucky but I don't know how many F1s don't shed at all.
Looking at her picture, she looks like she will be wavy not curly. She is gorgeous!!! Can't tell about her size and weight.
The coat is really hard to judge. I've seen some drastic coat changes in Doodles. Take a look at this Group "From Pup to Adult". There are a lot of pictures showing the changes in the puppies as they matured. Keep in mind though that if you are going for the more retriever type of coat, changes are you are going to get a shedder.
My F! Mini Doodle weighed the same as yours at that age and he is nearly 6 months old now weighing 34.6 lbs. The breeder says he won't get over 40 lbs. He has the wavy hair which I like best. He has been extremely smart, but also very active during the evening hours and wants me to play with toys with him. I discipline him using a small rolled up paper and he has never done any damage to our home. He's very loving and after a month of crating him at night he now sleeps in our room on the floor. (He slept all through the night from the first night we got him until now too)
Knowing what I do about little boy dogs now, I would have probably wanted a girl as boys whizzz a few drops everytime company comes to see us. He loves EVERYONE and gets too excited! Otherwise, he has been extremely easy to house break! My doodle also loves the water and won't stay out of it! He showers with me everynight nearly! and loves to get his teeth brushed! Hope this helps!
