Hello fellow DKers!
Ragley and I have entered a fundraising competition to help reduce infant mortality rates! The funds raised go toward non-profits in our area that provide education, services, and resources to disadvantaged families and children who are most at risk. If you feel compelled, I hope you'll join me in this endeavor!
Working as a nurse with new moms and babies both in Nashville and Columbus for the past few years has taught me a lot about what life with a brand new baby is like- it is blissful and amazing along with being challenging and exhausting. As with any nursing position, a huge part of the job of a mother-baby nurse is education. Education with both the mother and with the families on how to best promote health and safety for their newborn at home is something that is vital with every single patient, no matter the background or socioeconomic level. Our nation in general has a terrible track record with infant mortality rates. Here in Ohio, we are ranked almost last in the country for death of a baby before the first birthday. A huge portion of these deaths are completely preventable with increased resources and education for our new moms.
I hope you will consider joining Ragley and me in raising funds for non-profit organizations whose mission is to reach out to these families and help guide them during pregnancy, birth, and beyond! Thanks!
