How long can a 9 week old puppy hold their bladder?
Tags:
I googled this information for you:
A puppy can hold their bladder for 30 to 45 minutes max at 2 months old. 1.5hrs to 2hrs at 3 months old, and an hour for each month of their age at 4 months old and older.
At night: Generally speaking, a puppy can control their bladder one hour for every month of age. So if your puppy is two months old, they can hold it for about two hours. Don't go longer than this between bathroom breaks or they're guaranteed to have an accident.
Crate Training: Puppies, as early as 8-week old, can be left behind in a crate up to however old they are in months plus one hour. So if your puppy is 8 weeks old (2months) plus one hour=3 hours. ...
Night time I think is a bit off. Some other information we read said puppy can go 8 hours at night at 8 weeks old. We let Riley out overnight only a few nights after she got home and after that she went all night 10-6
On the other hand, Murphy at eight could go about 3 hours and would whine to go out.
Let your puppy sleep close in its crate so you can hear it.
How do you folks that work during the day manage a puppy ? I am concerned about my daughter working and being able to take her puppy out for potty breaks.
You’ve got to have someone who can go in during the day to give them a break. A neighbor, friend and/or paid dog walking business.
We made a puppy-safe area for when we are away at work. A towel to sleep on (better than a bed with stuffing - they can't rip it apart so easily), a few puppy pads to pee on (and destroy lol), a bowl of water and a few safe toys (kongs and durabone nylabones). For Luna because she was smaller she was in an exercise pen but Riley is larger and needs a baby gated area in a smaller room in the house - she is too strong to be contained by the ex-pen.
I'm on maternity leave now until next January so Riley won't be left alone for more than a few hours at a time (so she can be crated) - but for both Riley and for Luna we had a similar setup from the time when we brought them home until about a year old or so when they could be trusted in a larger area in the house. I suspect with Riley she may be in a doggie-safe area for her whole life because she is a bit of a menace with trying to eat random things :p
If someone can come home for lunch (or you can hire a college student or something who's home at lunchtime) then that's ideal but if not there are ways to manage it.
