Trixie has had a tiny cyst on her back for awhile....The Vet & I agreed to just watch it.
2 weeks ago when I was out of town the Cyst Popped...My daughter who was staying with Trixie told me all about it! LOL.
I told her to put a warm/hot Compress on it...which she did a few times...When I got home the next day it was already looking way better (my last dog had a cyst pop on her tail- so I have seen them all icky & gross)
I kept her hair braided & out of the way while it healed for a week.
Was just looking at it now...And see that the fur above it is very matted with dry crud.
I suppose I should cut this crud & fur off? Any tips for how to cut this off carefully?
Or should I just leave it...I dont think it will come off on its own though...It is also blocking the cyst from getting air to finish healing.

I would just cut it carefully. A little antibiotic cream on the cyst can't hurt either.
Shayna frequently has these "cysts" also.
I would suggest just rinsing with warm water to try to dissolve the "crud". I would be very careful about cutting it off as you don't want to further injure the area. Also you don't want Trixie to start licking or scratching the area. So don't draw attention to it.
I'm sure it will be fine.
We use Betadyne (however you spell it) on the cyst for healing. We also keep the cyst area clean and try to make sure all the gunk is out of it so it doesn't refill immediately. Our Springer gets these fairly often (yuck) and the cost would be prohibitive to remove all of them. Most of his don't burst or are not in a compromising place.
Be careful not to pull off anything that's attached to the site of the cyst itself and is not just in the hair.
Our vet gave us a little surgical disinfectant for Luna's skin lump (a papillomavirus lump). I picked at the loose parts of the lump a little to try to let it air, but I didn't pull on anything that seemed more "stuck" or that might rip off healing tissue. I then would disinfect it by dripping a little of the disinfectant inside the lump (it had a bit of a crater), then wiping the outside.
Ok, thanks!
I just got it trimmed really well around there...Was easiest if I cut off little pieces at a time.
The cyst area looks really good.
I will have to see what I have for Disenfectant.
Lucy had one awhile back and the vet put her on an antibiotic and had us put neosporin on it daily to keep anything from getting inside it while it heeled.
After being boarded for a week, Cosmo came home with some matts and a hot spot. I thought originally it was a bug bite that he had scratched or nibbled on because of itching--but, whatever the cause, it was bothering him.
I tried a triple antibiotic ointment with a painkiller in it for a day or so, but it seemed to have no effect. I took him to the vet, and she gave us Gentaved spray, an antibiotic spray containing a steroid and alcohol for drying. It cleared up the hot spot in just about 3 days!
My vet pointed out that the antibiotic ointment worked to exclude the air (I hadn't considered that!), which kept the wound from drying out. I'm glad to have the Gentaved on hand now.
I don't know if this would be appropriate for Trixie or not, but, now that the cyst has ruptured, it might be good to check with the vet!
Thanks Elizabeth, I will keep that idea in mind if it happens again. (I am hoping it wont...There is always that Chance : )
The cyst looks so good right now I dont think she needs it...Her skin is mainly healed...Just a little pin dot shows that isnt healed yet.
