My husband is near death, in hospice in our home. i think Chloe is picking up on my sadness, and seems depressed herself. She turned one, and used to be full of life. She won't even play at the dog park but just sits with me. Anyone have any experience with this?

I am sorry your family is going through this impossibly difficult time. We have experienced two dogs during two different sorrowful times show grief and comfort for our family. Chloe may be sad, and she may be quietly seeking to bring you comfort with her presence. Either way, I am glad you have one another. Praying for your family now.

I am sorry to hear about your husband and will be keeping your family in my prayers.  Two years ago we lost my son in law and he was in a hospice facility.  The family dog (usually playful) was allowed to visit and he did know this was not the time nor place for play.  I believe he took his cues from the family and as the family healed after he passed, so did Stevie.

Lynn please know hugs and warm thoughts are coming your way. Life does throw us curve balls that can swallow us if we let it. Please take care of yourself and Chloe. Surround yourself with positive people and make sure you get out with a friend for at least 30 minutes a day and a walk or two with Chloe every day. Our family went through several years of tragedies and it took its toll on my husband, myself and our older dog. I started taking Mattie for walks every day and even if some tears were falling I made myself go out that door - it did help Mattie and I both tremendously.

Lynn, I am so very sorry to hear this.  I can't even imagine how difficult this is for you and your husband.  Our dogs are so incredibly intuitive...they feel what we feel.  I do believe though that they are also resilient and your sweet, happy puppy will be back.  I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I have no advice, but I am so sorry about your husband. I think dogs experience sadness the same way we do and know when our heart is breaking. Take comfort in each other and God bless all of you.

I'm so very sorry about your husband. I truly believe our dogs can sense things and I hope she can be a comfort to you.

Prayers up for your husband, you, your family, and Chloe as well.

So sorry to hear you are going through this very sad time Lynn.  I am glad you have Chloe to bring you comfort.  Please try not to worry about her.  Try your best to keep her routine.  Warmest thoughts to both of you.

Sending prayers to you and your family, including Chloe.  I agree with everyone that Chloe is picking up on the emotions of her family and is trying to comfort you.  My experience in no way compares with what you are going through, but when I was ill with the flu last winter (and thankfully I'm hardly ever sick), Libby just laid on my bed, very close to me, until I was feeling better.  I'm sure Chloe will return to her normal self in time.  I am so sorry you are going through this.....

Lynn, I am so sorry to hear about your husband.  I also agree that the dogs will pick up on whatever we are feeling or going through.Wishing you strength during this difficult time.

Oh Lynn...I am so very sorry for all you are going through...it is so true, dogs are so in tune with our feelings...I am so glad you have Chloe to help you through this difficult time...sending prayers and hugs your way:)

I am so sorry about your husband.  Chloe is sharing your sadness - you can't change that. She will be okay as long as she has you.  Thinking of you all.
